Witter towbar fitting

Hi all

So I finally bought a second hand witter detachable towbar.

Fitting.....well without removing the bumper or drilling 2 holes behind the reflector it is finally fitted. I don't have much skin left on any knuckles or any patience left but it's finally on. I accessed the 2 bolts normally accessed via the reflector method by removing the left rear light and just managed to get a socket onto them.

Getting the towbar past the bumper and exhaust is also a pain, especially doing it by yourself. Holding the towbar up at one end with my knee and getting the first bolt in proved difficult.

Things worth noting, watch out for rust and dirt dropping onto your face. Secondly fitting a towbar with flip flops on isn't advisable, I learnt that not fron injury from the towbar but by a rouge socket dropping off the bumper onto my foot. Thumbs Up 2010 HSE SD4 in Santorini black

I picked up my new Freelander 2 yesterday, also 2010 in black and have the towbar to fit today. A nicely timed post there!

Guernsey 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Firenze Red

Just bought a 2012 GS SD4 with 13,000 miles (I'm in Guernsey). I need to fit a tow bar and I'm keen on Witter. How many of you have managed to DIY fit without removing the bumper. Also, will I have to go to the local LR dealer to reprogram the vehicle so that it 'knows' it has a tow bar.

Thanks in advance. I live in a small lane on the beautiful island of Guernsey in the Bay of Saint Malo.

I recommend just removing the bumper - takes less than 15 mins to remove, is dead easy to take off and put back on, and makes fitting the towbar really, really easy.
