Haldex problem

Hi there I need some help here my garage tells me haldex unit in my 07 Freelander 2 is in trouble making a rubbing noise when reversing turning and is fine when going forward and straight back no external noise coming from only if you turn sharp at very slow speed you will hear rubbing internal. It costs a lot of money to replace it is there any alternative ways has anybody have any experience in this much appreciated.

Yes your Coupling module (Haldex) is failing internally ...

I've mine just changed yesterday (under warranty) on my FL2 2012 40 000 miles ... same symptoms, virbration when pulling from stationary or at very low speed at half lock or greater ..

Problem is that are not serviced due to Land Rover not stipulating one (at 10 years or something daft ) when other manufacturers have a service schedule for a Haldex.

Once out of warranty I went to see Bell Engineering to get filters etc changed (not on door step from Yorkshire) so once again I would say contact them and see what they recommend. Good luck. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

So what are the recommended service actions and how often should they be done?

Does analysing the oil for metal chips help would that be too late? 2008 Freelander 2 i6 Alaska White - current
2002 Freelander 1 V6 BRG - gone but I still have the nightmares

I changed the oil in my Haldex. Very grey and sludgy. Didn't appear to have any metal in it, though it did start to settle out a bit, seemed to be more organic, which figures as the Haldex is an electronically controlled wet clutch.

I think LR treat the Haldex as a "sealed for life" unit, much like the auto gearbox on a Disco 3/4 which will often start juddering between 75 & 100 k miles and need the oil replacing.

My Haldex went for about 90 k before coming up with "reduced traction" error messages and various fault codes, the problem in my case was a blocked filter causing low oil pressure, when nipped in the bud it was a relatively simple fix, clean out then new filter and oil, if ignored for long enough it would get more complicated and expensive.

The same unit is used on a number of other brands, Audi TT, Volvo X40? Ford Kuga for example, it would be interesting to see what some of their service schedules say?
