I'm contemplating new front lights for my facelifted 08 FL2.

Should I go Halogen upgrade of the more expensive Signature strip? Experiences welcome?

If you have reflector type headlights upgrading to projector is a bad idea, upgrade to the HID projector type is a massive improvement.

SO I have bought these from Happy Nomad:

"Halogen Head Lights with DRL and Signature Strips"
UK Spec. New unused and still in protective film.

Do I need some adapters to plug 'em in? If so where's the best and cheapest place to get them?
Alternatively could I just hand it over to my mechanic to sort it himself?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Xenon is far superior

Intresting as when I facelifted my freely from MY14 to the MY15 headlights mine came brand new in a LR box from Dan and had no protective film over them.

The protective film that we see on the headlights are units that were once at the factory production line MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

you need adapters for the headlamps as the pre 2013 cars are not wired for DRL.

The only place I know that sells ready made adapters is Cameron's GT Auto. Here - I have no connection with this business but I did buy something from him by calling direct and making an offer so might be a way to go.

Failing that, the user, wytonpjs detailed his adapter project on here


Forum user Jim NI is also in the process of upgrading his headlight to DRL with sig and may be willing to advise too.

Someone on here recommended Cameron's in York for adaptor looms. At £250 they are worth the money if plug and play as connectors are around £100 alone, then you got diodes, Drl controller and labour time. I'm struggling to find suitable Drl controller. I've been running the Camerons plug and play headlight adaptors for several months now without any issues or problems. As JimNI said it saves all the hassel. These were fitted to my 2007 GS. Never had Xenons so dont know any difference. These are halogens and I find them fine. If I need some extra lights, I use the fogs.

How much did he charge you for the adapters and were they easy to fit?

I've changed a bulb (I carried a watermelon!) so I know the intricacies of getting the whole headlight out!
Is it simply a case of adding an adapter each side? His website mentions "earthing" them? I assume that is attaching an earth wire to the car chasis or something similar?

Did they come with instructions or are intructions not needed as it's a simple job?

My first freelander I changed to signature halogens which were great, my present car have xenon but I think if you live in a large town or city were the roads are lit halogens are fine. Unless you can get a cheap per of eBay.
If you change your lights let us know and take photos 2013 hse auto, black, almond leather, exnon lights, factory privacy glass, exhaust finisher, rear boot spoiler, mud flaps. Body door side moulding and steps.

Camerons charged £249 for the loom and adaptors. It comes complete with instructions. You may need some tiewraps to secure the loom. Adrian Cameron is an extremely helpful guy, so I suggest you call him. If you need the telephone number, I'll look it out for you.

I did have a panic on Friday when my Freely went in for its annual service and MOT at Caffyns. It failed. I thought it might be something to do with the DRL's and indicators since this woud be its 1st MOT with the new lights.

The reason I panicked was that the couteousy car that Caffyns gave me was a 2014 HSE and when the indicators are turned on the appropriate DRL goes out. On the Camerons loom. the DRL's stay on, even when indicating. However - this was passed OK!!

The reason my Freely failed was an intermittent Airbag light which went solid and was fixed by replacing the seatbelt tensioner. Now passed MOT.

Do these need programming at all? I have an 07 HSE with AFS and the AFS light is on due to the left hand headlight having a faulty ballast.

If I install these new lights what happens to the AFS warning?

I am planning on this upgrade as well.

MY2012 - I'm currently on the HID version. May I ask if I can "downgrade" to the halogen version, once I've managed to purchase Adrian's adaptors?

The signature DRL appeals very much to me, and it doesn't really matter to me if the lamps are HID or halogen. I reckon I would just get a Philips Diamond Vision (or something like that).
