Intermittent cruise control

Hi All

I have a 2007 FL2 "S" model. When it left the factory it didn't have cruse control. I've recently fitted a new steering wheel and also fitted the cruise/audio buttons to the wheel. Its been plugged in at the local indy to have "speed control" enabled so the car now knows it has Cruise Control.

However,,,, it only works intermittently. Could this simply be the second hand switches fitted to the wheel or should i be looking further? are there any tests i can try with the switches other than driving down the road jabbing at the switches??

Cheers all..

What do you mean by intermittent ? Shot in the dark here but you know it only works above 30 or 40 mph don't you ?

well simply wont turn on. (no light on the dash) I was told 20mph was the min but was doing 65mph at the time. It worked fine for a few miles. when i tried to enable a 2nd time,,, nothing

I plan to take the switches out again at the weekend and give the connections a clean etc.. just wondering if there is anything else i should be checking/cleaning?

As i understand it, its an electrical cruise system, so no vac pipes to check like on the older type setup.

My cruise control works above 20mph?
It doesn't work if the engine revs are low or if the engine is struggling, like if your going up a hill in the wrong gear (causing the revs to drop again)
Sounds daft but you do know it's the plus button to set it and increase, the round one with an arrow is the memory? If you have restarted the engine you will have to press + to get it on again.

Update... after replacing the buttons, the PCB behind the buttons, and the little wiring loom in the steering wheel, still no cruise..

The next link was the Squib Ring that the airbag and steering controls connect into.

Bingo...

I now have working cruise control. Very Happy

So to confirm if anyone else wants to upgrade to cruise control, all you need is the buttons on the steering wheel (plenty available on eBay) and the "speed Control" needs enabling on the ecu.
