Accesory and timing belts

Hi,
based on what I see in the workshop manual, accesory belt and timing belt (together with the tensioner and pulley) should be changed every 240000 km. The same applies to automatic transmission oil, and rear differential oil. This is for a 2.2 td4 diesel engine, automatic transmission.
I saw some comments of owners doing these changes more often.
So, is this information I see in the manual wrong? Or is it recommended to make these changes soon than suggested in the workshop manual?

Thanks for your opinion on this!
Juan

Hello there, it's more a case of preventative maintenance.

If you use the search facility on here regarding the points you raise, ie.auxiliary belts or transmission fluids, you will find evidence that suggests changing things sooner than the recommended time/distance.

I have done this since joining the forum and I'm sure it's saved me some problems occurring. If nothing else it's informative and helpful in understanding our vehicles.

Scotland 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Baltic Blue

The Evoque belt interval has been reduced to 144k/9years, as opposed to 150k/10years

LR obviously decided that 160k/11years was too long for the Evoque, so it doesn't leave much of a safety margin for the belts Shocked

I changed the belt, waterpump and tensioners on my wifes 56 reg 1.4 16v petrol Peugeot. After 9.5 years and 44k miles it all seemed in perfect condition but good to know that new parts are now installed. Also remember that a small petrol engine will have done a lot more revolutions than a big diesel. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I changed mine with water pump at 99k. Apparently it looked fine but I'm happier with a new one fitted.

Cost about £300 all in.

Thank you all for your opinions and suggestions on this matter. I still have a long way to go before changing them (not even 130000 km on the clock), but it's good to know what others think about this.
My doubts were related to the fact that although I do want to do this before the suggested distance/time, I didn't know when it would be wise to do it since all these parts are original ones for my case. Just a matter of having original parts do their job without risking major issues Smile

Thanks!
Juan
