Thank you...but wouldn't it behave badly all the time if it was a split hose? It's been driving fine the last few days... |

Not necessarily as the split may not open until under load roo when warmed up (ambient or operating temp) - the clue for me was the black smoke which suggests the diesel is not being burned properly - split hoses are very common but can be absolutely awful to find - it's a good place to start as they can and do throw up all sorts of intermittent problems.
