Sunroof wind deflector "netting"

During my search for a Freelander I noticed that any with an opening sunroof had a flip-up netting style wind deflector. However, when I used mine for the first time, no deflector. Is this a missing item on my 57 HSE model? Cheers.

on my 60 edition (SE) 2008 it is there, can't imagine driving without it as it makes much more noise

Pity they couldn't design the car so it didn't need it.

Looks stupid, and fills with dead flies. Steve

While driving and the roof is open try to push it down then you will understand why "flycatcher" is not the right word for it : )

Sorry, you missed the humour in my remark! I fully realise the true purpose - previous cars I have owned with sunroofs have either had a deflector that rises when roof opened or a surface mounted deflector above the front of the aperture. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Noisy.

That netting might reduce the noise slightly but it's still one of the loudest sunroofs I've ever had. Impossible to drive over 30mph and still hear the radio. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

Mmmm, thanks everyone. So it sounds as if there SHOULD be a flycatcher fitted after all. Looks like a return visit to the seller. Cheers. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Showing my age now, my dad had a brand new Orion Ghia with a sunroof. He purchased an official Ford wind deflector (something dark green and perspex) and you could open the sunroof at 100 mph with no noise at all.

I wish I could have something similar for my HSE as I agree, the noise is shocking above 30 mph. I have also had two TD5 Disco's and they were fine without any fly screens or such like. Poor design in my view.

Has anyone tried one of the aftermarket "plastic" wind deflectors (usually smoked / black) that are stuck on the roof in front of the sunroof opening? I don't really like the look of them but if they do the job....
I had Heko side window deflectors on my last car, and if anything, they increased the wind noise, and interfered with visibility. They looked good though... Laughing

Apologies seriesonenut... I missed the first part of your message. I was wondering if any Freelander owners had done this.

Yes I would be interested, I seem to remember the ford one fitted with clips and screwed in to the sunroof frame. How strong would the glue need to be to stop on at 70 mph!
