what makes you think it's the tensioner? If you think it's from that area it could also be alternator, steering pump, air con etc. I have just done a drive belt on a different car and it was fairly easy, you remove the inner wheel arch cover and attach a socket to the tensioner , heave on it and take the belt off. Then you can spin all of the attached devices and see if they sound OK. Best to take a picture of where the belt goes before you remove it. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

whine from belt tensioner

Im trying to fix a whine coming from the belt end of the engine, noise insreases with revs.

Anyone had anything similar being the alternator belt tensioner bearing starting to die?

Remove the belt and see if the noise goes, if it does it narrows the culprit down to items being driven by the belt.
with the belt off rotate all the pulleys, rollers and check for noise or roughness.
If the noise is still there with the belt off i would look at the timing belt/water pump as a matter of urgency.
Coincidentally next week im replacing my belt, and also the tensioner and roller, i haven't detected any noise but at 120k i thought it was worth doing while the belts off

The tensioner went on my MY07 shortly after the steering pump was replaced. Made a loud screaming noise (not like a slipping belt - more of a howl). Extended warranty covered the pump but wouldn't cover the tensioner. At the time the dealer said they had never heard anything similar before. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
