Central locking

I'm having a problem with the boot lock. Tonight, after exiting my vehicle, I went to open the boot, using the handle, but it would not open. I tried using the fob but it still remained closed. I then tried to lock the vehicle using the fob, but the horn sounded, telling me that something was open. (probably the boot)
Now, I can't lock the vehicle, because the horns sounds, and the interior lights remain on, even when driving. I found it strange that I can't lock the vehicle using the emergency key, but only open it. This means that my vehicle is now left unlocked while parked up.
Any idea's as to what I can do to rectify this problem?

Steve.

This is exactly the same problem I had a couple of weeks ago but I did manage to open the boot after several go's then slammed it shut and then I was able to lock the car. Got mine fixed under warranty......not sure what they changed though the lock or handle switch. One thing you can try is open and close and open again using the buttons on the dash. This may unlock the boot, it did with mine. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

How do you open the boot from inside, is it that you have to press the open/lock buttons the same time?

When I press the buttons on the dash it unlocks all the doors including the back door. But I'm also sure if you press both together for a couple of seconds this opens the boot door. Haven't read the owners handbook for sometime. Mine was the same as yours the boot door not quite shut which was stopping the other doors from locking. Wouldn't open with fob or door handle button but it did work with the dash buttons after that I didn't open it again till it was fixed by the main dealer. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

Thanks for the tip. My vehicle is parked on my works ground at the moment, but as soon as it gets light, I'll be out there trying to see if it will open. It's not under warranty (8 years old) but will get my mechanic mate to see if he can find out why the problem happened in the first place.

Further to my last message, I have tried to open the boot by pressing the lock/unlock buttons on the dashboard, but nothing happens. I don't know what to do now. My biggest worry is that I can't lock the doors, because my emergency key only opens the locks, but does not lock them. I'm not sure why this is, because what I've read from other's, the key should lock the doors.
Any idea why mine won't work?

Steve.

Pretty sure my emergency key locks as well as unlocks. BUT, you can still lock the car manually, so long as you're sure you can get back in again. Simply lock the doors from the inside before you close them (i.e.using the locking lever on the door itself), and they will remain locked when closed. (Actually, I haven't tried this with the front doors but it definitely works with the rears, so at worst you can lock the fronts and exit via the rear.)

Thanks. I'll try it on the front doors tonight while in work. I've booked it into a local garage for Friday so that they can do a diagnostic's check. It's not going to Stratstone's, that's for sure!

sounds like the tailgate switch has failed, a fairly common problem if you search through this site.

a new lock mechanism should sort out, and not that expensive.

I tried the above earlier, and I cannot lock the front doors without the actually being closed first. The locking lever won't move when the doors are open. The only thing to do now for a temporary measure, is to lock the two front doors from the inside, them climb into the back and then lock the rear doors, leaving one opened before I leave.
Hopefully, on Friday, the diagnostic check will come up with a fault code so that we'll know what's gone wrong.

I still can't understand though, why I can't release the tailgate by pressing the lock/unlock buttons on the dashboard, as mentioned by some members on here and also in the owners manual.

Does anyone know if there's a fuse for the tailgate, and if so, what number/where is it?

Thanks

The electric motor gear is broken, well known issue.
Basically you are f*%$, you need from the inside remove the liner enough that you can unscrew the lock and then the boot will open and you can or replace the broken gear or buy complete new lock

The reason you can not lock your car is because the logic the rear lock is working, if you press the button the electronics expect to "see" open and close confirmation if this doesn't happen even if the tail gate is close it thinks it is open

Well, after my local auto electrical firm couldn't be arsed to even look at my vehicle, I contacted Stratstone, who I bought it off. In fairness to them, they looked at it and found the fault, which was the fuel flap locking switch. It had jammed in the lock position, and when trying to lock/unlock the vehicle, was causing a fuse to blow. The tailgate switch was also connected to this fuse, which is why it didn't work.
Stratstone said at first that there was an £85+VAT charge for the diagnostic check, but this would be waved if the repairs were done by them. The cost of the new switch is £30+VAT, plus fitting. As a temporary measure, they removed the locking mechanism to allow me to lock/unlock the vehicle, and, as they mentioned, I would be getting a new one in with the new switch anyway.
They did not charge me, and I'm going to book the vehicle in for repair soon.

I'm happy with the way Stratstone helped me at such short notice. Only problem now is that I was drooling over the lovely shiny new vehicles on display!!!!!!

Steve.
