...when we came home today there was a NIP for our car doing 50 in a 40 zone - only on Tuesday. Oh , I thought. And then I looked closely....and discovered.... It was my wife who was driving. Yep, she who always tells me I drive too fast has been caught fair and square!!!! Now, my wife is your actual miss goody two shoes and takes pride in the fact that she has never had an accident or even had a parking ticket in the 35 years she has been driving. Of course, I'm now calling her Stirling Moss and pretending the Mercedes F1 team are on the phone for her to replace Hamilton tomorrow. Strangely she fails to see the funny side. Her defence - "But those speed cameras are not turned on!" Not good enough, I tell her with my judges hangman handkerchief on my head....

Depends on the County and their policy. Here she would be just outside the range for a course - by 1 mph 😢 |

Guidelines generally are , if you are eligible, you MAY be offered a course if the speed is between 10% +2 mph and 10%+9mph , so at 50 in a 40 your wife should be OK. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Well I hope it wasn't in the Avon and Somerset area. +10%+ 4mph! So it looks like points! Fortunately made no difference to my insurance when I got caught! 1998 300TDi Auto Disco, never to be forgotten.

Local discretion on the 10%, it was dropped in many areas after the raised cash was no longer sent to central Goverment, round here you will get a NIP for 33 in a 30, one member on here caught doing 32 in a 30 in Yorkshire. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior |

Was 32 the actual speed? FWIW, in France they knock off 5% for a fixed camera and 10% for a mobile radar trap, then do you if you if you are over the limit after that deduction. I was done a couple of weeks ago and the notice said; Vehicle speed captured 117 km/h Speed limit 110 km/h Penalty speed 111 km/h It cost me 45€ and 1 point off my license. |

Both me and Mrs B have had courses at 38mph in W.Yorks, It is in their interests to send you on a course. In pure economic terms they could get 5 pots of cash before a ban v 4 without. In west Yorks they can process around 1500 people a week on speeding, and a further, 600 on the other courses, mobile phones red lights etc. On top of that pop in rider awareness to a much lower figure but you start to get the scale of the financial benefit of Driver Education 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Just taken out a new insurance with LV. Paid for it on 2/6 as current policy was finishing on 9/6, offence occurred on 7/6, new policy started on 10/6, NIP received on 11/6 so totally innocent of not declaring any 'offences'. The online application form did not ask any questions about speed awareness courses so no way of notifying them. If she gets one there will therefore be no need to inform them unlike a conviction where she is fined and given points. If it was a consideration for them, I'm sure they'd ask on their form.
