We bought our 58 FL2, 2.2 td4s, 4 years ago. Was 3.5 years old when we bought her. She will be 8 years old in Sept. Bought her with around 64,000 miles on the clock, now covered 94k. Spent quite a lot in maintenance over the 4 years of ownership. Also done quite a lot of it myself. Can't seem to let go now lol.
Anyone else owned their landy for over 4 years? Landy has now gone.

Yes, just. Bought it new in 2012. Only done just over 20k and had no problems. It will probably outlast me.

I have it from new, a MY2009. So 7 years... And counting... I will keep it until the wheels will fall off.

If they do fall off Alex, you will probably find a way around the problem and fix it somehow knowing you

Yes, we have had the 09 Freelander for 5 years. Prior to that we had a Defender County SW, for 13 years from new ( would still have it if the thieving pikey ...... etc) . We will probably keep it up to the point it is not economical to keep it. At 7 years old and 50k miles it is at the age where it will not depreciate very much so for a car that only does 4K a year it's daft to change. I reckon on£ 1000 a year for insurance, tax, service , general maintenance and tyres. We paid £16k for it at 2 years old, and I don't think it's value will fall below £7k for quite a few years . It's a plain vanilla cloth seat GS auto without any sat nav or other bells and whistles to date it, and all in all it's very tidy, but because of its low value there is no need to worry about being precious with it. It will get an Indy service every year, and will get quality tyres as needed. All in it's still a nice thing to drive the 160ps engine is DPF free no problems with it being run 2 miles to the shops then !

My wife has a very tidy Peugeot 207 56 reg with only 44k miles on it and still on the original battery. She does about 3.5k miles/year. A few months ago I changed the cambelt. We took it into a local dealer recently to discuss possibly changing it and the guy said that it's only worth about £1200 and that we either add about £9k to it or don't bother as spending any less will only get us something similar to what we have already. He also said that any big job (say £500) on it would probably not be worth doing financially. Interesting situation when a car gets to a certain age/mileage. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I had a similar problem with my 1st FL1. The auto gearbox was on its way out at 120k miles and was going to be around £1500 to sort.
It was at the time the 4x4 market plummeted due to the change in taxation classes and its value was only £1500 to trade.

I had it for 3 years, and it was 7 years old. I had just under a year left on the finance so handed it back to the finance company at no extra cost.

They put it to auction and I found it about 4 months later on a forecourt in the North West on sale for over £4000 !!! so I rang them up to get details (thinking it had been clocked) and it was exactly as when I got rid of it. it only appeared to have been scrapped a couple of years ago so it had quite a long life

Not the current one as had that less than a year but my track record says it will be a long term hold for 10 or so years. My last car was a 2002 D2 ES and I had that from a year old till over 10 years old and an Isuzu Trooper SWB Duty 2.8 Turbo diesel before for 14 years.

Basically, I like to buy them at 1-3 years old than keep them until I finally get bored or in the case of the D2 when I stupidly agreed to downsize to one car with the missus. Bad decision, I really loved that D2 and it was immaculate with only 68k on the clock and a chassis with nothing bad happening and waxoyled! Someone got a reall keeper with that one

Usually though, getting bored comes a few years after they get old and I take over all maintenance, sort everything out nicely and then get tired of waiting for something else to do  Freelander 2 2012 HSE Auto SD4 Ipanema Sand

I owned my previous FL for 7 years and had done 105000 when I traded it in

It's what I'd really wanted to do with my last two FL2's, but completely failed! The first one got traded, with LR's help, due to an unrepairable issue after a year and 30,000 ish miles. Meanwhile the second "keeper" lasted for about the same before morphing into a new D4!

I'm full of good intent again to hang on to it for years but, this time around it's a financial necessity! If it can make it to 2029 (retirement) I'll be very happy And relieved. And the holder of the "Optimist of the Year" award!

We bought our 08 HSE auto in December 2011, shortly after moving to Cornwall. We've more than doubled its mileage, with 84,000 showing now. Last year was expensive, with a new turbo being fitted when it broke down whilst on holiday with the caravan in Cumbria. Other than that it's had services, brake pads and tyres. My independent garageman reckons it will need new front disks this year - he also says that this particular model is the most reliable car that Land Rover have ever made.

I've looked at a few options to change to but keep coming back to the facts - it's comfy, usually reliable, tows the caravan well, uses fuel at a reasonable rate (30-35 mpg depending on circumstances) and I enjoy driving it. Why swap? Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto
