Sunroof Drain hole Location

I have done a search, just before anybody offers that solution.

What I am looking for is to find out where the drain holes are located around the sun roof and if I can access them to check that they are clear.

I guess they are near the A and B pillar points, but I can't see them! - do I need to remove anything or are they too difficult to access from above?

Thanks

I'm watching with interest for the location , the wife parks near trees at work and it gets covered in blossom.

The water is collected from above B pillar(s) and drained behind rear door(s).

Ok, so having found that I had a leak from the sunroof I needed to get it fixed.

The sunroof drain holes above the B pillar on both sides are inaccessible from above, no matter how you position the sunroof they are not able to be checked or worked on from above.

There are a few posts on here that tell you about taking out the roof liner. That looked a right pain, so this is how I did mine.

Drivers side: Remove sun visor, grab handles front and rear. Open doors front and rear and remove the seal around the door openings, it just pulls off.

Next remove the plastic trim alongside the fascia by the door opening, it just pulls off.

Open the flap marked ‘airbag’ on the A pillar it’s on a plastic hinge and opens towards the window, use a flat bladed screwdriver or a trim removal tool if you have one. Undo the captive torx screw and then pull off the A pillar cover.

Remove the lower section of the B pillar, it’s held by 4 plastic studs, it just pulls off. Then undo( mine opened towards the C pillar ) the flap marked ‘airbag’ on the upper section and undo the torx screw beneath . Then gently prise off the upper section and leave it hanging loose on the seat belt.

Repeat the above on the C pillar, although you won’t be able to remove it completely as it’s held by the lower rear wheel arch \ boot section, just pull it open at the top by a few inches.

Gently pull the roof liner down at the front, sides and around the sunroof opening, it is just held by spring clips. At this point you may get a shower as any residual water may decide to escape from any areas that it has been held in. You should now have room to work on the drain from the drivers seat.

Shine a bright torch directly above the B pillar and you should see the black hose that is a push fit onto the bottom of the drain – except in my case the hose was not connected as it must have worked loose! At this point you can either push something like strimmer cable through the hose or use a low pressure air line to ensure that it is not blocked. I secured my hose on to the drain using a small cable tie and a smidge of silicone.

Refitting is just a reverse of the above. Take your time and you won’t break or bend anything.

The passenger side is done using the same procedure.

Took me about 45 minutes each side. Although now having done it once I am sure I could reduce this time down to about 30 -35 mins a side

This will cause a few discussions Very Happy
The drain holes are only there to drain the channels when the sunroof is open and to give an escape route for water that may be displaced when you tilt/open the sunroof.
If your sunroof seals are good and the roof is correctly fitted water should not get through to the drain holes when its closed.
really they are only a second line of defence for leaks.

The water is collected from the exterior of the seal so the drain holes will always be wet....
When the sunroof is closed, the channels are still filling with water.
You can make an experiment and pour a cup of water on the crack between the sunroof glass and the body and you'll see the water coming out on the wheels....

Got it from a land rover design technician!
spent 2 hours next to him on train, conversation got round to leaking sunroofs and why they made the drain tube connectors out of plastic about as strong as a matchmaker

So did this do the job then ? my sunroof is leaking now and i'm just about to start striping the roof lining out.

My leak is coming down the front passenger pillar then into the foot well.

Thanks
