Tail Gate Not Opening

Today the Tail Gate failed to open using the handle press switch. Firstly tried to establish if it was fused, owners book gave no clues. Thankfully it opened on the direct key setting.

Time to wade in and see what was going on so off with the rear inner tail gate cover, simply remove screws in the two grab points and flip off cover. You still cant get at the press switch so off with the whole outer door finisher taking out the small bolts I think it was eight in total. All very dirty between finisher and body. Next unclip small loom from main loom and your free to change the switch unit (if you have one just sat around on a Sunday afternoon Whistle )

I tried to take off the switch sealing rubber and found it nigh impossible without ripping it so defo now need new one even though I did get to work again (assume it had moved and stuck open when last time tail gate slammed Big Cry )

Anyone know the cost ? I bet you have to but the whole mini loom as well as no separate connectors.

Looks like I will need to improvise a rubbing strip for the finisher as it was as with others as reported on this site rubbing the paint off the tail gate.

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Firenze Red

Went to local dealer for a lock release switch who of course gave me the wrong loom Censored to fit my number plate lights. Could not be arsed to take it back on 20 mile return trip so cobbled it on for £26.50p.

Found some double sticky tape to put under finisher / grab unit to stop further abrasion with tail gate paint. May let in a little more muck and water, only time will tell but was full of muck anyways but at least it may delay a big paint job. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
