Steering Column Locked

I have purchased a 2010 freelander 2 auto which I have had for 2 months now.The first month it all went well, then it started not starting intermittently but with a few attempts it would always start. Then 1 week ago it did not start, key fob in push the start button dashboard lights on but engine not turning, steering column locked warning! AA managed to get it going after an hour of tinkering with his laptop plugged in and then disconnecting battery. Took it to Land Rover garage and they updated steering lock software. 2 days later it would not start again, tried disconnecting battery, checked fuses and many other suggestions from internet but nothing. It is now back at the LR garage!
Not feeling good about this car right now.

Yours is a bit newer than mine but a new battery and fitting the extra earth cable cured this and more for me.

The AA checked the battery and I had it checked by a independant battery sales shop and both said it was good.
Will definitely look into the earth strap, will see what LR gareage can do.
Thanks for suggestion.
