SD4 jault on pick up

Hi All,

Something i have been curious about for a while now and can't work out it if it is normal or something going on I should take back to the dealers while still under warranty.

Most of the time, throttle application pick up is smooth if done in a sensible manner but sometimes when approaching junctions, roundabout, below about 20mph, the drive seems to go into neutral and the car coasts, this is fine but then when i reapply the throttle about to pull away from a hazard or roundabout, the car jerks and there's a bit of a clonk sound, only soft sound but the jerk is quite noticeable.

Anyone else had anything similar? Other than this it's always smooth pickup.

Gary

My previous car, a TD4, seemed to suffer from a worrying turbo lag after slowing, say for a roundabout, and then accelerating again. This was apparently quite normal from what I have read. My present car an SD4 seems to take off with a lurch and picks up speed rapidly but I haven't noticed a knock as you described. I put this down to the difference in the set up of the two engines.

My SD4 displays the same lag, but like Colindale there is no clunk. Also when coasting and the auto box changes down the change is rough. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

Thankfully there is no lag, it seems to be when the revs drop to idle so its effectively coasting under 20 mph. If you let it get to below 10mph it picks up smooth and no knock / clunk is heard. if its between 10-20mph after the revs have been at idle for a little while, then you go to accelerate again, unless you're incredibly gentle on the throttle, it picks up with a small jerk and a sort of knock,

Lodge it as a fault with your LR dealer if you are worried and then its got history if it fails/gets worse just outside warranty. Thumbs Up FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I had something similar and it was low Haldex fluid level. My symptoms started when reversing into a parking space, I would rev slightly whilst releasing the clutch, drive would be taken up but then a thump as if one of the wheels was on a patch of ice. It later manifested itself in forwards like you say joining a roundabout, usually when turning though. Hope this helps? 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

Sounds similar. Will get into the dealership. It's got 2 years warranty on it.

Thanks.
