You can write to the DVLA and request the present keepers address you have the new reg number.
Although they will not release this information unless you have an excellent reason (abandonded car ect.etc. check website)
A friend made a similar request in order to buy back an old car he was sorry he sold, and the DVLA passed his details to the registered keeper and contact was made this way.
Perhaps telephone them and leave your details for new owner to contact you.

Bit of info I have just found out - To find an old vehicle you need to download Form V888/2 from the DVLA site. Explain why you want to trace your old car, post it to DVLA and keep your fingers crossed they will pass on your details to the new owner, service charge by DVLA is £2 - cant complain at that So guess what I am going to do  2014 Audi A4 Avant - Dont like it !
