The only thing I can think of is the crankshaft revolution sensor may not be connected properly.

I should have said - the rev counter is working when it fires up so it shouldn't be the crank sensor.

Yes, it is possible that it would still fire,run roughly and cut out, if you incorrectly fitted the belt.

Here it seems there is a contradiction.... Normally you set the tension with locking pins in position and only after that you remove the locking pins.... So you can't move the pulleys and you can't miss a tooth. Something there was not as supposed to be... |

The crank gear is designed to move a few degrees on the shaft when tensioning, to ensure all the slack is out the belt
