The F-Pace is an interesting car, and definitely benefits from being released after the amazing Mecan.
Even JLR confirm they had to revisit many parts of the car in order to compete at the level they wanted.

That said, the parts bin is shared with LR - Good, Bad - or mixed benefits, as is much of the electrical system & software
It will not be as capable off road, though probably better on road - unless your landrover has Magneride
Some of the plastics are a bit suspect - as per the DS

Still waiting to see in the flesh the 2017 DS, or new Discovery 

Finally had test drive of 2l diesel auto Jaguar F-Pace today. First impression was that it did indeed drive as well as it looks. I'd wondered whether the Ingenium engine would be adequate for the scale of vehicle. I'd say it will be fine for many customers, especially as the rather tasty 3l version is only available on the top of the range models, S & FE.

I particularly liked its quality feel compared to the LR DS. Steering nicely tight and direct, acceleration responsive enough particularly in dynamic mode. AWD display showed off the dynamic shifting of power from front to rear axle from driving away, as you accelerate. Same rising knob gear selector as LR, that I still find a bizarre feature compared to a trusty gear stick selector.

Attractive curves in the body-line work well in most colours, but seem largely lost in black! All-in-all it seems a great vehicle, if you can afford it. The F-Pace models all seem to leave plenty of scope to add numerous essential and nice to have extras which seem to tot-up rather rapidly. Gone are the days when you could choose a model that had all the features you wanted!

Despite never owning a Jag before, I'm very tempted by the F-Pace. Interested to read what others think about the F-Pace once they test it out. Life is not a dress rehearsal!

I'm quite taken with the F-Pace, it seems a sizeable car.

After 30 odd years of ticking a box, and someone in fleet sending me a new car , the time came for me to cease working for a living ( for a long while at least ) and put my own cash into a car. Having had a LR product as a second car for 20 years I looked at all the LR products in the price range that I was willing to pay. I looked at the Jag but it's just not what I want . I was disappointed with what was on offer. I looked at virtually everything from all the manufacturers I have had cars from when work paid. Nothing concentrates your mind more than disposing of a large chunk of your own savings ! I wanted a boot big enough to get my " clay " guns in ( in their sleeves not broken down , even our Freely 2 struggles there ), a boot big enough to get all my fishing gear in plus a travel bag or 2. I wanted AWD capability, not necessarily an off road vehicle, I'm not going to take £30 odd grand head to head with a load of bushes etc just for the hell of it. I wanted all leather and auto. To cut a long story short that's how I ended up with the Subaru in the footer below. It's a cracking car to drive, CVT box suits the engine, it's fast enough, smooth, and with 1/2 the current mileage logged in urban crawl I'm getting a real 39 mpg. The boot is nearly A6 Avant sized and has an electric gate. Memory seats, leather , decent technology including EYESIGHT collision avoidance and adaptive cruise and vector braking . Symmetrical full time 60/40 AWD , not Haldex and an off-road X drive switch. Oh and and very old fashioned but nice electric sunroof. It's refreshingly a real " estate car " rather than SUV and has a good command driving position. 8" of ground clearance is enough to get down to the river on my fishing beats without any drama . The 09 GS is going nowhere soon, but when my wife saw the Subaru for the first time she said " when you're ready to change that one I wouldn't mind keeping it as my car " The other refreshing thing was Subaru dealers are there to sell you cars not finance, not PCP, they don't try to sell you any paint seal, GAP insurance or lifestyle umbrellas . I really rated the Outback when I test drove last year. Would have given serious consideration but the nob of a dealer took over a week to agree a cost to exchange deal which valued my 35k mileage my09 gs at circa £9grand so I walked away. Needed an auto so ended up getting a nearly new F2 se and am more than pleased.

Strange that Subarus are a rarety in the UK when they are such big sellers in the US and Australia. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

That's a silly price for cost to change. A quick shop around the Internet car brokers would give £1500 to 2000 available on a new Outback average so 10.5 to 11k would be more realistic and the dealer still able to make a ( big) bob or two on your car, but these guys seem to want all ends up. In a similar manner when I was discussing the price of a DS the salesman was telling me there was no room to discount, despite the fact I had an Internet brokers price for nearly 2 grand less than list ! In the end I got a cracking price on the Outback from a great local dealer who met a brilliant one off limited time offer I got from an Internet broker who was shifting a cancelled order 😂 and the local guy organised 50/50 for 12 months interest free. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

I asked this question to a Subaru dealer at a local country show last year. Their answer was that it's because there's a limit on the number of imports as they're made outside the EU. Don't know if this is correct but seems likely. 11 GS Bali Blue

I would suspect it is more to do with the fact it is RHD and it is a bit thirsty on paper compared to its rivals, the UK market is quite small on 4x4 cars and estates except for the caravan towers, the SUV style being the main choice. The Santa Fe at one time was limited in the UK to raise residuals, not that it was built in Korea. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

We've had impreza wrx sti's in the family since I was still in school. Tbh I've lost count how many we've had till date! They are excellent machines and the grip is just superior. Even though LRs in our bloody (great great grandad started it all off) I've still got a very big soft spot for the STI. This is our current one which is due for a part exchange soon BUT there is a facelift STI out 2017 so it's staying for a little while yet.

Subaru's were very popular up here but when the STI became a hatchback sales hit rock bottom and even though they reverted back to the saloon a few years later it was never the same. A lot of dealer networks changed hands and it saldy wasn't the same in the UK. The dealerships changing resulted is fewer sales and all models were hit.

There still are some good Subaru dealers but not many saldy.

Absolutely no doubt that the FL2 is miles better offroad than the X3 but i had two FL2's over 6 years and never once had the need to go off-road so wasn't something i needed in its replacement.

My experience of the FL2 and the dealers was terrible, my first FL2 had a knocking noise from the rear that one dealer spent numerous attempts at fixing before telling me they couldn't and to go somewhere else, then another dealer had it for a week saying they fixed it when they hadn't, it took them another 2 week long attempts before they finally fixed it and even then I never got a definitive explanation, oh and they kindly dented the bonnet whilst in their possession then denied doing it so i had to pay for the repair!!! My second FL2 was fine for 12 months but for the next two years spent 6 times at the dealers, it had 2 yes TWO replacement haldex units fitted, rear diff replaced amongst over things that went wrong - this was for a 'go anywhere' vehicle that was under 3 years old with only less than 30,000 miles on the clock that had never been off-road. I have had 9 vehicles in my driving history (8 from new) and both FL2's were the worst by a country mile
