Passenger Door Locks - Faulty, or Set That way?

Hi All - First time poster, and potential new owner! Im looking at a model at the moment, and notice a small quirk with the passenger doors... maybe you helpful people can help me either saying its a fault, or a setting...

Upon our test drive, we couldnt open unlocked left rear passenger door from the outside, a press of the unlock button on the dash helped this, and we could open this door.

The front passenger door could not be opened from the inside without also pressing this button after going for a drive.

Is this normal and a setting for the Freelander or more of a fault somewhere? - as Id like to raise this issue with the dealer if so.

Drivers door worked perfectly.

Spec: 2010, 2.2 HSE

Can anyone advise please on what this may be? - hopefully just a security issue and not an expensive repair. This seems to be down the left hand side only.

default setting for the remote key seems to be

1 press - drivers door unlocked only
2 press - remaining 3 doors and boot unlocked

when locking the car

1 press - doors single locked, interior sensing NOT armed
2 press - doors double locked and alarm fully enabled

so if you leave the car with a dog in the boot, press it once and the interior alarm wont trigger

its a personal security feature to prevent dodgy people jumping in when you unlock. If you do a search on this site there are threads about how to disable it so that 1 press unlocks everything.

pulling any door handle from the inside should unlock that door, unless its the rear doors and the child locks are engaged.

pressing the lock & unlock buttons on the dash at the same time for about 3 seconds will unlock the boot only.

Doors auto lock when you drive off. Both front doors can be opened from the inside when you stop. Rears cannot unless the button is pressed or a front door has been opened (which unlocks all).

Thanks for the prompt replies.

Sounds like a problem then, as the front passenger door could certainly not be opened by the handle during our test drive when I swapped seats with my other half so she could drive.

That door could only open AFTER I hit the unlock button on the dash.

For the rear, I may need to revisit and double check how it performs again as it may have just been a single press opening I done on the key.

Anyone encounter the front door issue before? (Expensive?) Not that I should care as Ive not bought it yet, but want it done by them if I buy it.

not expensive and there are a fair few on here that have replaced door locks themselves.

there is a sticky thread on the maintenance page on here on how to change the locks

just get the dealer to do it before purchase if you do buy it
