Lack of a Service book for stamping

My latest FL2 is still under LR warranty and does not have a service booklet. The service info being held electronically by the Main Dealer - I was told when I bought it.

But I nearly got caught out - because Id not bought the car from new and didnt have a service book to look up, I forgot to get it serviced at the required time (mileage was under the limit though). The Dealer forgot to contact me for a service too - which they admitted -it was only when I was one day refiling the log book I realised a service was over due.

I dont really like this dealership-held electronic service history as Ive got no reminder to get it serviced other than a diary entry on my phone and no hard copy.
Does anyone else find the lack of visible service history disconcerting ?

What do I do if in the future I get it serviced by an independent specialist, how do I get a service book to stamp ?
What do you do when the want to sell it and the buyer asks for the service history ? Jules

Wife had a merc for a short time that didn't have a service book as it was all electronic. I don't know about LR. But Mercedes has a user portal where you can download the history. With your car I would get a print out of the electronic service history from your dealer and keep it safe. Then if you use an indy for your servicing just keep all the invoices together with the service history print out. You'll have all the information together if you choose to sell the car at a later date. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Personally I could not be bothered, I have all the service history from my independent mechanic.

Can't you print or save the computer screen as pdf or if that fails a screen shot & print & shove the invoices in a lever arch folder. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Your service history is available online to print off or look over.
You just need to register on the "LR Online Service" site.
The vehicle gives you a 30 day countdown message of a service required. MY15

You could buy a Land Rover Replacement Service Book (LRL0178ENG) and ask your LR dealer to enter and stamp completed service details

I don't know if any site sponsor outlets stock this item

If you search on here you'll find info on how to register - the OSH code is e-mailed to you by LR. No need to buy a service book - download one free from TOPIx.
I don't find the service reminder very helpful. It's easy to miss it, and anyway by the time it comes up it's quite late to plan ahead for the service. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Seems a very crafty way to make sure you always go back to the main dealer.

Mine had no service book although I was sure I had seen it when I viewed the car. I played up hell and they sent a replacement book stamped, incorrectly, by the original dealer. I gave them a lot of grief and got land rover direct involved. It took three months but I eventually got an original book with all previous services filled in and stamped.

I wouldn't be happy with just an online version, this type of data tends to get lost.

Pretty sure you don't have to go to the main dealer, an Indy if he subscribes to Topix can access the history, me couldn't care less about the book, what is it, a page with the date, milage and a dealer stamp, easily forged doesn't mean Jack. As others have said you have a countdown service reminder, I always keep my receipts for any work or parts fitted, much harder to forge, I have all the service receipts, date, what mileage, where done, by which garage, what parts where fitted, says a lot more than a service book. Even the online version can be down loaded and you will get a lot more information than what's in a service book, the booklet can easily get lost also. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior
