United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Lago Grey
Newbie from Crewe with a few questions

Evening all, my names rich and I'm from Crewe currently drive a 2013 vauxhall insigina 2.0 diesel... Me and the wife are going to look at a 2007 freelander 2 td4 hse with 90k on the clock tomorrow never had a landrover before so anything I need to look out for? Common issues? as the insignia is quite new with only 26k on the clock I'm a bit nervous looking at this having done 90k but this car should suit us better as we have just bought a caravan and sure going to come across some muddy fields lol. any help appreciated thanks Rich

Hi Rich
I'm in almost exactly the same position as you.
I'm looking for a FL2 right now with the same idea of towing a caravan.
I'm surprised nobody has replied yet.
My research has shown me that the main achilles heel of these cars is the rear diff failing.
I looked at a car last Saturday which ticked all the boxes but the diff was very noisy (particularly on overrun) I pointed this out to the seller and made her an offer but she wasn't interested so I simply walked away.
I have spoken to several independant LR specialists and they all rated the Freelander as reliable if serviced properly, way above the Disco 3/4 and RR (L322) models.
The diff is a simple fix by the way, it's just expensive in terms of parts which I always feel can be used as a good bargaining tool.
Good luck with the search Smile

1. drivers seat damage on outside edge bum area, they are know to crack
2. seatbelt A post damage, where belt returns into piller
3. have a good look underneath for damage, a good indicator is the sump guard
4. water ingress to rear high level brake light
5. even tyre wear, though most are prone to edge wear on front tyres
6. ALL the electrics work, I always check the date on the SAT NAV DVD Disc ( under drivers seat)
7. lift up the folding rear seats to see signed for excessive dirt build up ( might have been used as a tractor !! like one I saw a while ago)
8. when the engine is hot and running lift oil filler cap, there should be no / minimal pressure / smoke, and no white gunge
9. Parking Sensors are a know issue , and fail often

Thanks everyone for the advice we have decided to go for it, the garage is sorting some body work and having the wheels refurbished ready for when we collect. It's got full service history so fingers crossed it will be all good and serve us well. Just bit nervous going for older vehicle, wish me luck lol

England 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

I have been towing caravans for many years, using Honda Accord, Mitsubishi Shogun/Pajero and BMW 530d estate before swapping to my Freelander four years ago. Nothing comes close in terms of ease of towing - you'll love it. My local independent LR dealer reckons the Freelander 2s are the most reliable cars Land Rover have ever produced. He, like me, is a big fan of the automatic gearbox over the manual ones. Good luck, welcome to the Forum and enjoy your caravanning! Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

Mine - 2014 Vespa GTS 300 Super Sport Matt Black
Ours - 2007 White Bailey Pageant Champagne

Correct, I went from 2008 FL2 GS Manual -> 2014 Insignia 2.0 Cdti SRI -> 2010 FL2 HSE Auto

My only regret was not going for the FL2 HSE Auto instead of the FL2 GS Manual. Insignia was fun and fast but not as good as a FL2 IMO Very Happy

RogB, I was interested as why if he was changing to an older FL2, was the Insignia 2013 only worth that of a 2007 HSE, possible, seems it could be worth more Smile my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

The insignia used prices plummet faster than you can imagine. My son's 2013 1.8 sri with 30k on the clock is only worth about £6500 to trade.

Yea we are swapping the insignia for the fl2 which should suit us better, as for the insignia prices they are silly cheap now most garages only wanted give me between 8500/9000 for a mint car with 26k full main dealer history nav etc. Should be getting it in a week or so after its had the wheels refurbished and some minor body work I was not happy with
