Hi. Had many Range Rovers and Discoveries over the years, but a beginner with a Freelander.

I have tried searching and can find nothing on this topic; because there is nothing, or because I am searching wrongly?

Has anyone any experience, good or bad, of re-chipping an SD4 please?

E.G. as proposed at https://www.chipexpress.com/products/3102/

There are several issues that concern me, I guess.
1) Is it expecting something for nothing? As someone once said; if it's too good to be true .......
2) Does it work?
3) Can the cost be justified in service?
4) Is their "try it and return it" guarantee honoured in practice?
5) If so, should I try it out with a stop watch and report back?

Tuning boxes are generally crap, this one certainly exceeds the torque limits of the gearbox, which is around 450nM.
Re map is the route to take or buy an MX5, have you tried sand mode? That generally puts a grin on your face.

It would appear that the transmission on the FL2 is just capable of handling the torque available in current state of tune.

I think that the ECU actually limits power in 1st/2nd to protect the transmission - would the re-tune be able to do this at the correct point? - not revs but torque level?

Please do a search on diff failures, before you go ahead.
Of course if you are re-tuning for fuel economy, then extra power will not be an issue for you or the transmission. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

And yet, mine has been mapped for nearly a year now, and no issues

It's all down to the expertise of those doing the mapping

You have Alive Tuning over near Goole, I believe they are one of the best at mapping Land Rovers in the country

Depends a lot on which insurance company you're with. I had a remapped Navara and it only cost another £30. And even asking your insurance company for a quote can affect your renewal.

You can kiss your driveline warranty goodbye

I'm not so sure about the Approved Warranty...

It will affect the original 3 year Manufacturers warranty, but I would seek clarification on an aftermarket warranty
