[Wanted] Pair Of Right Hand Drive Bi Xenon Headlights

As it says in the title. Wanted: Pair Of Right Hand Drive Bi Xenon Headlights

Will be coming back to UK for 6 months or more so will need to register the car there, change headlights and guessing the speedometer cluster..Although i have been told it not part of the MOT. Probably best to change it anyway..

Thanks
Graham

I think you can drive over here on your national plates etc for 6 months without having to conform to UK rules & regs

After 6 months the car needs to be MOT and UK registered etc however I believe if you leave the country in the car and then re-enter then the 6 month period starts again

If its not going to a be permanent move to UK then this may be a more cost effective option (holiday every 6 months to visit relatives etc ??)

that's if my information is correct, and it turns out to be legal to do it that way Laughing

Hi Rog,

Thanks for the info. Yes well that would be a good idea if that were the case as it will not be permanent. Is there anywhere that it is in black and white? Set in stone so to speak. That would definitely make my life much easier for sure..

Using foreign number plates for longer than 6 months

You might be able to use a vehicle with foreign number plates for longer than 6 months if all of the following apply:
##you normally live outside the EU
##you’re in the UK for a set period as a student or worker
##you claim relief from VAT and duty

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) will give you a customs relief form when you claim relief – show it to police if you’re stopped when driving the vehicle.

So you may be able to keep the car as it is if you are going to be here for a set period of work. But if you choose to register it in the UK then dependant on where you are coming from (i.e. inside/outside the EU) then there may be taxes to be paid on the car (VAT, import duty etc)

Best bet is to email the DVLA directly and pose the question to them.

I would not be surprised if no-one bothers - judging by the number of LHD EU(various) plated cars seen in the daily "travel to work" queues! Yes, of course they go on hols every 6 months, officer! Whistle

You will need to think about insurance too. Will your Finnish insurers be happy to insure you outside the country for an extended period? Also bear in mind that if your car is LHD and you do register it in UK insurance will be less easy to obtain.
Years ago it didn't seem to matter but now they will often reject it. If you then go to a specialist broker it will be expensive.

Maybe the car has a digital speedo? Mine has but I don't know if they always did. driving on the right side

Nothing is ever easy is it lol...

Bi Xenons..Dont know now someone has said that! I assumed they were....Will have to check now.

Insurance.Should be ok but I will check that out also... I don't really see why getting a left hand drive car insured in UK would be 'rejected' There are many there..Again will need to take a look into it i guess.

It's so hard to sell your car here or that would be the option maybe..I donet really have the time and so i should take with...There is also the question of the KMH and an MOT...No REAL answer on that anywhere i can find!

Going off topic..Still looking for some lights if there are any about ...

I have found where i can get a MPH replacement when and if i need it. Again another Balls Ache..Frustrated!

I have an LHD UK plated freely. Its insured through Stuart Collins and can be driven anywhere in europe 365 days per year inc UK. My bi xenons are switchable for RHD and MOT centre was OK with kmh speedo. Hope that helps??

Hi JimmyB,

Yes that helps regarding the MOT Smile I am wondering what year your FL2 is? Guessing one of the newer ones. Maybe as I have the 2007 the lights cannot be switched as yours have been.

Graham.
