FIL is a petrol head and he rates the Z3 highly, and chose it over the Z4. Admittedly it's a Z3M. |

I had a 3ltr Z3 for a while lovely little motor I think parts will be cheaper for the Beemer, If you want a real buzz though do what I did, took my bike test at 45 and bought a bike, no more traffic jams. |

We have an SLK 2.0 and really pleased with it, SWMBO uses it mostly for commuting daily, I drive it about once a month if I can't be bothered to swap the cars over. |

Thanks all for the responses - very helpful! Got a few more to add to more possibles list; will take a look at the 3 series convertible and the porsche boxster (which has to be the choice for a mid life crisis done right!)

I would also recommend the Boxster (didn't mention it since it wasn't on your original list). My other half has a Boxster S, the previous model, and it's a great drive. However if you're over 6 foot then you might find it a bit tight (I'm 6'4"). I've only used it for the commute (30 mins) and am not sure how comfortable I would be on longer drives. Both of us have the top down if it's dry and on a sunny day it's even more enjoyable.
