Any winch has to have an anchor point. If you really have to, you can bury your spare tyre vertically as an anchor point, I've done that before but it's hard work.

That's a good idea, doesn't take up much room, light & squishy so it will fit anywhere inside the car.

Just the one. It works fine and doesn't pull crooked. For $160 odd it sure beats the $3000-$4000 you need for a winch compatible bullbar plus winch.....not that you can get one for an FL2 anyway. And you aren't lugging around an extra couple of hundred kgs on the front of the car. Plus it will pull backwards or forwards. Half the guys I go on trips with only need their electric winch once every blue moon, they try to use it and it won't go, the electrics are stuffed by too many river crossings and not enough maintenance. A regular occurence, I'm actually surprised if an electric winch works.

In a previous life I supplied aluminium to bullbar manufacturers. Anything to save weight hanging off the front of the car is the go. Better still don't add anything to the front to start with & one will save wear & tear.

I'm not sure if aluminium bars are winch compatible. Most winch bars are steel.

Aluminium is strong enough as long as you use the right alloy engineered and built in the correct way designed for the loads. Most of the armour protection used banks etc, is aluminium armour plate, it is tough enough and still not too heavy to manhandle. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
