"Lag" when backing up

Freelander 2, 2013, automatic. I experience a sort of "lag" when reversing in slight uphill. I put the gas pedal down, and it revs but the car does not move. Then after a second or two it suddenly starts backing up fast. Feels almost like a "turbo lag". Still have warranty on it but I just thought I should ask. Not used to automatic gear boxes so suspected it might just be me. Any thoughts?

Nothing to do with lag.
This is the feature GRC - Gradient Release Control. The system holds the vehicle when moving from "D" to "R" or visa versa and on gradients when you release your foot from the brake pedal to prevent vehicle rolling whilst gearbox re-engages and releases brakes gradually. This happens every time I reverse into my garage, I just apply light throttle and wait for the gradual release of the brakes. MY15

I think I know what your talking about, I have the same, if I reverse a long way the car goes then stops repeatedly when the accelerator is held at a constant position. It is so annoying. You get launch control about 20 times trying to reverse 10 meters. I had the parking module reset which fixed it for a shot time but now the car does it again. The only way I can reverse smoothly is to press the accelerator up and down gently, this takes getting used to!.

Every automatic car I have had for the last 20 years has had a delay before the drive kicks in. I thought it was due to the fluid flywheel spinning up. My son's Porsche 911 has a PDK autobox which uses clutches and there is absolutely no lag but that's a totally different type of gearbox. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Had same issue on mine, made reversing a caravan quite tricky or reversing up my outlaws drive very much a stop start affair. Rev, rev, nothing, then a bit more and wallop, off I shot too quickly. Pain in the ar@e.

Due to this and other issues, ended up selling it and moved to a 30d X3. Tickle the throttle and it creeps backwards, press a bit harder, it goes a bit faster. All predictable and so much better. BMW X3 30d M Sport - Current (problem free)

I've had it happen a few times, on particular slopes in one car park - the best way I've found to overcome it is to switch to GGS mode - gives a more dampened throttle which makes it easier to avoid the jerkiness. 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

I reverse uphill onto my drive. Was a bit tricky to start with but now do it with no problems without thinking about it. It's like learning a different type of clutch control.
