Vapour and bad smell coming from aircon

I search and read some people had this issue previously. Originally it was just a bad musky smell when turned to heating, now there's mist/vapour coming out the vents. No problem when set to cold. I've done all that was suggested including having the dealer air bomb and change pollen filter. The problem still exists.

I read somewhere it might be problem with heat exchange or blocked a/c drain. Hope someone has found a solution.

i had the same with my last FL2. Mist out of the vents when temperature set to around 18 deg, windows steaming up quickly all round, wet carpets etc

turned out to be a blocked drain tube underneath the centre console, fixed by the dealer under warranty but I believe its a quick and easy job to check which will either fix it or rule it out.

thanks. is the blocked drain tubes something easy enough to check myself, or should I bring back to dealer. Its out of warranty.

I haven't noticed any wet carpet but will check next time.

I check the drain tube under the center console and it appear to be fine, no leaks or blocks. Might have to look into the heat exchange...

Do you get a constant drip from under your car when you have your air conditioning on full as getting a white mist is caused by partial freezing due to trapped moisture not being discharged from the evaporator.
You might find the pipe will seam clear but the discharge nozzle may be blocked.

I noticed water dripping from the exhaust pipe with a/c full. Is that meant to be? Should I check under the car?

dripping from the exhaust pipe is normal while the engine is cold,

but you need to be looking under the middle of the car, roughly under where the front footwells are.

with the car on the drive or road, engine running. all windows closed. put the air con on minimum cold, full fans.

after a while you should start to see a wet patch appear on the drive/road under the middle of the car. (could take a long while as your down under)

this is the moisture in the air inside the car being extracted by the air con and dripping out the drain pipe under the centre console

if you don't t get the moisture dripping out, and the air con is at 4 deg C approximately, its a fair chance the drain pipe is blocked.

disconnected the pipe and squeezing it out might help to clear any blockage or air lock in the pipe

thanks for all the tips. so just to make sure the drain tube IS the black tube underneath the center console. So I don't need to look under car?

Update: I checked the drain tube again and gave it a few squeeze up and down the tube and tada the water started draining from under the car. So it was blocked and now no more mist from the vents. Still have the bad smell but I'll keep the a/c running always from now on and see if it goes away. Thanks for all the tips!

I would buy a air con spray to kill off the bacteria that has formed inside the vents etc as it will damage your health.

I used this once done the trick for me:

quick update: I cleaned out the a/c with Autoglym A/C cleaner and now the smell seems to have gone away and a/c back to normal. Glad I was able to fix the problem with all the help!

Hi guys, someone has a photo of this little pipe underneath the consolle? Should i have to remove the consolle where the radio and other controllers are in?

Thanks
