Everest 50% offers

With I need to get my driveway relaid and my fascias, soffits, gutters etc renewing I contacted Everest Double Glazing as they apparently do drives and roof work as well as windows and have a 50% off deal at the minute.

Booked a free quote appointment online and then had confirmation call. First thing the woman said was that the minimum size drive they would quote on would be 25 sq metres and prices started at £6k

Well considering my driveway is approx. 70 sq metres and ive already been quoted between £4.3k and £5.5k depending on surface finish I think I'll give Everest a miss on this occasion Laughing

Do they use reinforced glass on their driveways or else it will smash as you drive over it?

Never take any notice of any Everest quote from the office, the guy that makes the decision is the area sales manager, he will make the decision on the value of the total work required and discount to get the sale. The one advantage of Everest is that any problems, they are fixed with no arguments about " that wasn't in the quote sir"
Their surveyor many years ago made an error when I ordered a double patio door with a 2m span, he assured me that the frame was load bearing and that the wooden beam was adequate, it wasn't on either, that door came out 3 times and a fair amount of steel work was added to support the roof and extra support for the longitudinal sill the whole 28ft length of various panels sat on. Many apologies and lots of plastic thrown away and replaced, a few demotions and promotions and 2 years before they got it right. They did learn a lot, but I understood it was only the second double patio door fitted in the UK in PVC, so lots of communication with the designer, even got extra bits as I didn't like the finish, said it looked cheap.
Yep it was a pain, but I have seen programmes where other national companies have washed there hands and won't even re-instate to original, at the time Everest were the only company to offer a double patio door in UPVC of that opening. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

agreed, Never used Everest, but the previous owners of my house used Shamus O'Pikey for the block paving, 3 years it was laid the path had 10mm gaps at best wider in places, so I dug out the piece of toilet paper and read 10 Years Guarantee on it

Didn't give my name, or address and he knew it well and would "be round to fix it! so it is"

Now I still have a few years left on this guarantee, and the weight of the extremely heavy Sherman Tank Freelander 2 has caused two large dips were the front or rear wheels park

If Everest have the good reputation and the area sale manager can get it to the figures you are happy paying then I would go with them.

Depends on when they come too, last visit on a Friday night, at the end of the month, before a bank holiday is a good time to get quotes, my brothers Wardrobes were to cost £12K, but this came down to £7k (iirc) as he kept him chatting and asking him if he wanted to get that last sale for this months quota, before a bank holiday break in sales, and how he was been a bit daft letting a sale go over £1000...... when he had come to his "LOWEST Price" Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

See what your saying guys, my issue is that an initial quote of 6k for a 50 Sq m drive would equate to approximately18k for my 70 Sq m drive....how much can they discount that??

I've decided to pretty much go the diy route with the help of a builder neighbour for the excavations and sub layers as I'm going for a core drive system (honeycomb panels) with gravel which is easy to lay.

Everest are still coming to quote for all the plastic work.

supposed to be pretty good, got the idea off someone on here. I had the manufacturers authorised guy out to quote and he came in at over 3k just for the matting and gravel,

I emailed the company direct and they will supply and deliver to individuals, (approx. 1k delivered!) you just lay the honeycomb sheets on your hardcore/sand base, cut any to fit around flowerbeds etc then fill with gravel of choice (recommended approx. 12mm gravel)

the hard part is digging out and prepping the base layers.

I got the idea from the chap on here too Laughing

Seems a good system, hardcore and matting looks straight forward and the scooping out the base and adding hardcore a mini digger should breeze through it and its fun playing with it for a day Very Happy

Could you PM the details for the supplier so I have them when I do mine Idea Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

My brother in law wanted a conservatory and got quotes of around £20k. Everest came in and quoted £80k !! When he had stopped laughing the guy started discounting madly but he didn't get the business.

I had some block paving done by a local firm, whilst the guys were doing it they said that they were self employed and if I needed any more work doing just go straight to them. A year later I got my patio relaid by them for about half the price that the parent company quoted. Suggest you look out for work being done in your area and have a word with the blokes doing it directly. Virtually everyone in these companies is a contractor. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Everest use Residence 9 for their flush fit replacement windows (as seen on their latest TV ad). These windows are foil coated and can be bought in heritage colours. R9 can be bought from a huge number of window firms at a fraction of the cost from Everest. They are the nearest thing to hardwood you can buy. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Everest are similar to thomas sanderson blinds , ridiculous quotes, lots of sales pater, followed by discounting but ultimately hugely expensive for what are good but not unique products.

our blinds from a decent local firm cost 1/4 of the sanderson quote, using the same quality materials.

sandersons still ring once a month trying to sell us something. Im starting to get rude with them when they do. At work

I definitely wont be going with Everest for the drive way. Im guesstimating around £2k to do it all with the aid of my builder neighbour. He dug and block paved his own driveway so has access to the tools needed to excavate and hardcore the space and will just charge me his day rate. That will be a saving of £2.3k to £3.2k on the quotes ive had. Even allowing for extreme discounting Everest may only come down to what ive already been quoted from elsewhere so they are not even on my radar.

Ive still got Everest coming out to quote on the fascias, soffits, guttering etc but again my local builder buddy has a contact who does it. Ive seen his work and its good as far as I can tell.
