You cannot blank a DPF vehicle, because the functioning of the EGRs is essential to regulate exhaust gas temperatures during the regeneration cycle. Actual blanking isn't an issue, just the consequences. Thumbs Up Freelander 2 2007 TD4 Manual HSE Tambora Flame

hi LOW, thank you for reply.

In my knows during the (active) regen process the EGR is off/closed.

The use of EGR decreases the exhaust gas temperature and therefore prevents the optimum DPF temperature being achieved.

So it seems that if the EGR is off the exhaust temp increase is not so bad for the DPF healt and ( maybe) can help during the passive regen process.

Now, I don't know if also put a restrictor will switch the MIL on: searching the web I've no found any direct experiences with the DPFed Freel2.

For my previous Euro4 engined car ( not LR) all the web said " you cannot blank the EGR without MIL on...." well I've done over 150.000 km with EGR fully blanked and never seen the MIL Very Happy

I'm not sure of the specifics but I know that's the reason behind the DPF issue. Presumably the DPF needs to be cooled during the cycle also, but maybe software/valves could produce some kind of switching option one day. Thumbs Up Freelander 2 2007 TD4 Manual HSE Tambora Flame

mumble mumble mumble..... I never thinked about the DPF cooling: usually the problem with the DPF is just the opposite....the DPF are always too cold ->ash mass increase -> problem(s)

Anyway, you're right: it could be, maybe there's a kind of "switching option" to cool down an overheater DPF but, to be honest I think that the overheated filter is a very remote possibility.

The optimal temp to burn the Diesel Particles is approx.600°C (over 1.000 °F)...very hard to acheive with only EGR off Smile

I don't own a FL2 but have a 2008 Pug 407 hdi 2.0 which has a nearly identical motor. It had an engine surging problem which no one seemed to be able to fix. Eventually a blanking plate fixed the problem. However I was concerned about the effect on the DPF. I decided to use some induction cleaner to clean the EGRs etc. and remove the blanking plate. The surging hasn't returned.

sounds good. Are you DPF equipped?

You fit a restrictor or a full blank plate?

No DPF, full blank plate fitted. MY10 TD4 SE Auto

The opinions regarding blanking a DPF car or not are split, so i will add one more thing to the mix, to blank completely or to put the blank with the hole in it (restrictor)?

imho the restrictor is a waste: basing on the theory of Mr. Bernoulli, the same exhaust gas quantity will pass....only with a different speed Smile

Maybe you can stop some quantity of oil/soot that can deposit on the face of the restrictor but nothin else than this.

I have a restrictor in my vallet but I'm a little lazy so I don't have test it yet.

Furthermore, I don't think that you can full blank the EGR (if you've the DPF) without MIL on, but I don't have any direct experiences on this.

If you want, you can test a full blank...I will test the restrictor and we will report the results to this forum: do you agree? We will the first in Europe to test a blanking on a DPF equipped FL2! Very Happy

Thought I read somewhere the latest MOT tests now doing a gas extra test and blanking may now lead to a fail ? FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Tempting offer but the risk of needing new DPF as a result is too big for me, if it was up to me i would've removed the DPF and EGR completely but it's nearly impossible in Germany Twisted Evil .

I guess i will wait for other brave men with DPF to try it before me Wink

your car will be in limp mode before damaging the DPF so don't worry about it Smile

I'll try the restrictor but be patient...I've to find time and the fancy to do it Laughing

Use premium fuels (higher cetane rating for a full clean burn) and keep the EGR clean with a regular cleaner say every 1-2 yrs will make a huge difference !

Beware insurance if you use an EGR blank !

regular cleaner? - are you referring to diesel additive or injector cleaner such as Wynns?

Yes I have used Miller Oils Diesel Power EcoMax each service.

Works well, improves cold start, smoother engine ...

... and Wynns Diesel EGR cleaner for the valve.

I got my garage to clean the EGR last year with a tin of Wynns and it was simply outstanding driving away after the service. Like it was brand new ... no 2,000 rpm hesitation / hunting smooth as anything and seemed like it had a lot more power.

Not sure what happened to mpg, too busy enjoying the new feeling !!!
