Being a RR, I believe the drivetrain configuration is a little different than FL2.
I may be wrong, but by default the front is disabled and freewheeling and therefore it's an easy way to be towed. (or stolen.... Laughing Laughing Laughing )

Does that mean that you could tow an FL2 with the front wheels off the ground? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

No. From the handbook:

Quote:
CAUTIONS

The vehicle should only be towed in a
forward direction with all four wheels on
the ground. Towing in a reverse direction with
two wheels on the ground will result in serious
damage to the transmission.

The vehicle should only be towed for a
maximum of 80 km (50 miles), at a
maximum speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). Towing
for a greater distance, or at a higher speed may
result in serious damage to the transmission.

Towing with 2 wheels on the ground (whether front or rear) would result in one 'half' of the haldex rotating whilst the other doesn't, and I'd guess that will cause problems for the haldex.

There is also the possibility that the person driving the pickup truck doesn't know (or doesn't care) what they are doing - and that therefore the RR's transmission is now stuffed......

I thought that any auto transmission should not be back driven though with the L/H box in neutral ( if it still has one) then the viscous coupling would still try to drive the rear wheels, but we don't know the problem and he may have no choice. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

A friend of mine 's wife used to have a Renault Megane 4x4. It broke down and she called the AA. The AA guy picked up the front wheels with his vehicle and managed to tow/drag it about 100 yds before he realised that something was wrong. Lot of damage underneath, big bill for the AA. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Theres something about not towing vehicles where their transmission is lubricated by a pump when its running too, towing it with the wheels on the ground and the systems not running because of a breakdown means its not being lubricated can damage it too, they need to go on the back of a wagon completely.

If it was permanent 4WD wouldn't the rear wheels just spin? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Typical situation years ago with any Auto Box as when towed the pump etc were not doing a lubrication job. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
FL2 MY13 TD4 GS Current
