Help with lost key fob

Hi Guys,

I have made the grave mistake of loosing my key fob for 14my freelander 2. I contacted local dealer who have said it will cost £240 for new fob + £77 recoding. But this may not work sometimes and may require in car module at cost of £250 which is not covered by warrenty even though it is a failure in the module stopping them from recoding new key. Can anyone give advise on best way to tackle this as info online varies as does what the dealer says.

Cheers
Steve

some insurance companies have a lost/stolen key clause that will cover you

Insurance on House ?

I would check if house insurance covers all your keys without effecting your NCD/Premium (house key attached). Would not go too official if asking question direct as insurance companies I once read can load premiums once you show your head over the parapet even if you do not follow up with a full claim. As in you are now a bad risk Censored . FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

agree with the above, I once had a sat nav stolen from my first FL1 whilst parked on my drive over night a few years back.

I reported it to the insurance company, in case door locks or anything subsequently failed, but never made a claim

the following renewal the bumped my premium up stating I was now a higher risk due to the non claim break in.

conning Censored !!!!!!

My dad just had this with his full fat range rover! Something to do with a certain run of model years as a 'security feature' they made the key module go in to an unrecoverable lockdown if it has 3 failed attempts at entering a new key. Problem is even the dealer level software sometimes refuses to allow access 2/3 times in a row. Only solution is a new blank module. Im sure that wasnt designed to rob people ✊🏻💦💦

Funny thing is, if a car thief with an OBD coder sits in your car at 3am, they never usually need 3 attempts to code a blank key to start your car...... Td4 XS manual, Orkney Grey, MY2014
