Hi. Personally, I'd stick to the manual. If anything goes wrong and you've followed this to the letter, then you should be fully covered by your warranty.

Some cars nowadays have a build-in detector that warns when the oil should be changed - depending on driving conditions. Some engines warn for the first time after not less than 30 000 Km. So you shouldn't worry but do not forget to keep an eye on the oil level indicator ! |

According to my handbook, and previous advice on this website, service intervals are 15000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first.
