Theres already a roof mounted aerial routed in, or maybe thats just for the nat sav?

The aerial on the roof I believe is for DAB & DAB+. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Ok.
Within SDD/dealer visit, there is a "Service Function" test for the antanae array on the Freelander 2.
It will test the continuity of all the Arial's and also the attached circuitry which in the case of the FM Array there is 2 ampliers, so this will show up any problems causing your poor reception and interference
I think in your model the Amplifiers are in the tailgate accessed through the interior panel you remove to access the rear upper brake light. MY15

Al my freelanders had, at best, average FM reception, and terrible DAB reception.

DS has great DAB reception
