So, I've been a disco owner for many years, then had a company car for a while, and when I moved jobs I bought an XC90 (horrible thing, which necessitated the use of the XC90 forum regularly).

I've always been an admirer of the Freelander 2, so when I could afford to ditch the XC, there was only one way to go.

I've had the FL2 for about 6 months and I love it...really really love it. Does everything I want it to do. Yes, there are some things I would change (bigger boot to house all of my three kids's stuff), but all in all, it's good.

A couple of things have gone wrong but I've fixed them myself with minimal effort, thanks to the posts on here, and when I couldn't find how to change a window regulator (anywhere) I made sure I posted here how to do it when I worked it out.

So, getting back to the point...I've noticed that the volume and frequency of posts on this forum is lower than on the XC90 forum, and for ages I couldn't work out why, as I couldn't believe Volvo owners were more passionate about their cars than Land Rover owners.

But I've worked it out...FL2's are just better! They don't (on the whole) have owners pulling their hair out with stuff going wrong and feeling the need to bitch on about it on forums. This forum has very few moaners, and instead has loads of helpful posts, comments and contributors....and furthermore it just feels more like a community of like-minded people.

Having moved across from the disco3 forum, I was surprised at how quiet this forum was in comparison. Then I twigged why, the F2 is more reliable than the D3.

You may think it isnt, but if you have ever owned a D3 you will know what I mean. Returning to a F2 after my D3 ownership was a no brainer. I had enjoyed my previous F2 so much that I never considered any other replacement for the D3.

As a closing note, I have to say that the members of this forum seem far more civilised that the ones on the D3 site.

They're a good bunch here, odd ones are a problem now and then, the real trouble makers have moved on, probably in Disco's
DG and Gareth certainly have their work cut out over there, I wander in occasionally, pinch the good stuff, bring it back and all is well.
The Freelander is the most reliable of the bunch and probably does indeed go a long way to the sense of calm over here, now the model has ended the demographic of owners is also changing, those with second user cars possibly expect it not to be perfect, those who do are fools unto themselves, expectations aren't as great and all credit to LR for looking into issues and offering goodwill gestures. There are many forums where manufacturers do not have a direct representation.

We have arranged a Halewood tour in the past, maybe try something different this year, possibly a Kielder forest drive?

Just think if we all did our own maintenance and kept our cars in perfect condition there wouldnt ever be a forum then on that basis.

after owning an fl2 and knowing a fair number of folk with fl2's both on and off this forum it is safe to give the car the' chicken george' seal of approval.

If it wasnt for the stupid diff whine and auto fl2 will 'never' let you down, and clutch problems with early cars seem to have become a thing of the past.

The car restored my faith in LR products after a terrible FL1 and some shocking build quality issues on the last defender we owned.

I find my Freelander more useful and just as reliable as my old golf iv pd130 estate which I sold when I bought the Freelander.
My golf which I owned from new started going wrong around 75k miles that included clutch failure, worn suspension bushes failed door latches , wheel bearings.
My Freelander has cost slightly less for the same sort of faults which is contributed to wear and tear of every day use.
The one thing I miss from my golf was the huge boot which took every thing there was even a large hidden storage area under the boot cover by the spare wheel and even trays above that.

The majority of Volvo owners are also retired so have plenty of time on their hands. FL2 owners are too busy enjoying themselves (or working to pay for the servicing!)

I do like a clean FL2...if I wanted a "dirty" weekend I do have the use of other vehicles for that sort of thing!
