I work on the basis of never buying extended warranties on goods be it cars or white type goods etc I buy from new. At some point it may catch me up I guess but with what I have saved I reckon I will still be in front. That said the FL2 now doing more miles wont miss a service as that is tempting fate. |

I agree and I have a policy of never buying extended warranties on anything. The exception has been our 4 Freelanders, one was OK, the second had no warranty and cost me over £1200 in repairs, No 3 (with warranty) would be nearer £3k and current one over £1500 (with warranty) ie far in excess of what the warranties have cost. As cars get more complex and require more specialised diagnostic equipment to do the simplest of jobs I see no option in the future. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

When the wife was looking for a replacement for her DS3 (that's the Citroen version) we went to look at an Audi A1 at one of their garages. I was in my usual sunday scruffs. The garage was deserted but I had to go up to the salesman and he literally forced himself to come out to show my wife a car. Thing is she would have bought one (through the NHS car lease scheme). Her new car comes on Friday - another bloody Citroen DS3. |

Just had a letter and brochure this morning from Land Rover asking if I want to take another year of extended warranty. It's gone up in price a bit and the quote is as follows

It just says that car must be under 10 yrs old and 100k miles and must have been serviced in accordance with manufacturer otherwise it will need to be serviced by a dealer. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto 5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE |

I bought my current HSE privately without warranty. Bought the extended warranty through Duckworths & they did a "pre warranty inspection" (for want of a better description) which it passed. ![]() 08 FL2 TD4 SE Manual in Rimini Red (Now Gone) |

Interesting reading. A number of people have said they would be uncomfortable in owning an LR product without a warranty, and I presume they replace the vehicle when the warranty runs out. Even with the warranty extension that would make it 3 to 5 years old. When considering the cost of paying for repairs after warranty... has anyone compared this to the vehicles depreciation? The first 3 or 4 years see a lot come off the value. Depreciation starts to slow down after this which should more than counteract the average yearly repair bills. Offset this against what you have to pay to get a newer vehicle... Well that's my thinking but I have a hawkeye to help too and plan to do some of the repairs myself. Hippo, I think you are saying that you either pay for depreciation which decreases asymptotically down to it's scrap value or for repairs which increase exponentially and that beyond a certain age repairs become the dominant factor. The question is, when is the cross over point? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

My current FL2 SD GS Auto will be 3 years old in April, currently @30k miles. The 3rd service is part of sales deal so I have, after much consideration, decided to spend a few!! pounds, 3rd annual service is Free, then MOT, Brake fluid change, Air con service and LR Warranty for 1 year. All in less than £1,000.

I said in another thread I would be going for the new Volvo V90 D5 AWD when it's time to change my Disco, but I gave it a good clean inside and out today and when I stood back to admire my hard graft, I thought there's no other car I would be happy with.
