loud knocking engine sound

Hi there gents
Can someone pls help.
When driving today to deliver the lr2 to my daughter the car suddenly lost power and made a knocking noise coming from the engine bay. I had the vehicle loaded up at took back to the garage that serviced it the day before and they say its electrical, but doe's not know what. The car idles smoothly and is not misfiring or running uneven, its just that knocking sound, sounds like a old time diesel knock. And the "i" in the command screen say's "transmission failure".
Its a 2008 td4s with 204k on the clock.
pls help any one?

Could the big end has gone? Did they change the oil on the service?

There are videos on YouTube of the noise, see if yours sounds similar.

They also said the computer is giving 3 faults. Maf censor, throttle body and something to do with a pick up censor.
Can a loose batt or earth connection cause the problem?. I forgot to mention its a auto box

Thx steve
I did ask them that question and they told me that when they unplugged one by one the engine starts to run uneven. So they are ruling that theory out for now.but that is exactly what it sounds like.

You say theres a fault reading mentioning a pick up sensor, im just wonder if that maybe refering to the crankshaft position sensor that tells the engine when to inject fuel when the crank is in the correct position? If that has a fault the fueling might be slightly out and causing the knock?

Hi Landiroamer
Yip, thats the one they said. Makes a litlle more sense to me now. Maybe the censor its self, or the plug came loose.

Thumbs Up good place to start to me, they might have knocked something changing the oil filter around there? Hipefully thats all it is a loose wire.

Ironically the FL2 has a knock sensor, I'm on my tablet at the mo' so can't look at Topix for its location.

Hi Gents
Spoke to a systems technician from bosch, and he's willing to put some nuts on the table and say's "one or more injectors". Will be removing the injectors and have them tested. Will do update after that.

if it was running ok before the service and now straight after the service you have problems?

either they have damaged something or are generating more business for themselves?
