Not an expert (Apple TV here) but when I looked at it Amazon Prime needs a sub as does Netflix (on any platform). The catchup apps (iPlayer etc) should of course be free.

I can update you in a few days.
We have just ordered Amazon fire stick with HD and box etc to try for ourselves. We currently pay a fortune to sky so time for a change.
On the forums there is such conflict of opinions of the fire stick that we thought we would buy and try for ourself currently keeping sky.
It's due Monday so hope to set up this week.

Or you could become a a TV snob by not having a TV. A friend of mine gave up all TV for a month (inc YouTube etc) for a bet and found so much else to do in life that he hasn't gone back to it. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

just got fire stick here, works with sub 1gb broadband but poor pic quality, 10 gb arriving Tuesday so hopefully it will improve dramatically. quite a lot of free content if you pay amazon prime sub so you also get free delivery on most goods, free music streaming and a free photo cloud so you can view your snaps on tv and/or set them as screen saver.
bought a smart tv also (not arrived yet) so kids can watch something else in other room, this comes with amazon app already loaded.

I dont think stick/app will fully replace normal tv as it takes longer to change channels but great for catch up etc.

cancelling sky movies at least, cancelled lovefilm by post, new broadbands going to be fast and cheaper than I pay presently. all the savings pay for new tv and stick for current telly in approx 12mths.

also you can take the stick on holidays proving your accommodation has wifi and a modernish tv, you could probably tether the stick to your mobile if you ok with the resulting data use. At work

Just got our stick, HD box . Having spent the evening browsing makes
sky looks very very expensive.
It is a different way of watching TV and slightly longer winded looking up what's on but it's saving 45 quid a month.
Much better choice of films than sky.
Gained some programs that I can't get on sky, the only one that I watch that can't find in aircraft crash investigations.
Quality of picture not quite the same yet but going to try an enhanced HD lead.
Worked out that in the last 16 years I have spent nearly 14k just on TV broadband/telephone.
There has to be a better way Jaguar x-type sport gone

Don't bother with a different lead (I assume you mean a different HDMI lead) - it won't make any difference. The quality is determined by your broadband speed. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

Our internet is. 2.7 meg and it continually freezes and picture quality poor, although it's watchable now we have turned the HD off.
According to helpline, ideally we would need about 12 meg. Apparently you divide the broadband speed by 8 and the average program needs about 400 something or other.
Tried applying for fibre and it's at least 6 month wait so going to try a 4g. Box with unlimited data.
We have very HD 4g so I reckon that may do the trick Jaguar x-type sport gone

Yeah 2.7 is pretty low. I'm on 6 and it is perfectly useable. I hope you find the mobile data thing works for you.

The divide by 8 thing is a little confusing. Speeds can be quoted in megaBYTES per second or megaBITS per second. There are 8 bits in a byte so 8mbps is actually 1MBps. Both the same speed though, if you follow. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
