sounds like you bought it privately without a warranty?

Perhaps a chat with the previous owner might reveal something?

I bought it from a car dealer along with a 12 month warranty (of which I have to contribute a percentage of any repairs due to its age/mileage). I'll no doubt find out pretty soon if the warranty is worth the paper it's written on! |

I suspect the previous owner got rid due to it being an existing problem, as they'd just forked out for a clutch and DMF 3,000 miles ago. Probably just decided to get rid before they have to spend more on it. Although it's got issues at the moment, I'm still hopeful I can get them resolved, as I really enjoy driving it when it goes well. |

Seems like you have some electrical connection/connector problems. Wouldn't be surprised if the faulty one was disconnected/reconnected a few times the fault would go. Trouble is, where to start? I'm no expert, but there are a bunch of connectors in the base of the passenger 'A' pillar that can give rise to strange symptoms. Most likely some drivers side too but I have not looked there.

Hi Bob, I'll certainly post any findings on here. I know only too well from other forums how frustrating it can be when someone posts issues with their car and doesn't post the outcome, often after loads of help from forum members. |

Unlikely to be of help. They will almost certainly say that it was OK when they had it. A couple of cars ago my local indie, who serviced my FL1 was called up by a prospective buyer and asked what they thought about my old car. They said that it looked OK when they last serviced it but they always recommend an independent inspection and would never make any other comment in case they got sued. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto 5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE |

I can see why a repairer would say that, but as an owner, I'd be happy to say something like "yes it was having a string of problems so I traded it in". Different matter if selling privately?

The 75 & ZT certainly served me well over the last 14 years. Hopefully I'll get this one sorted and it'll be just as dependable. I can only hope at the moment!. |

Got the car back on Friday evening - all seems well at the moment, although I expect that it'll be a while before I have any great confidence in it.
