She's acting weird lately !

For the last 2 weeks the fl has been acting up a bit. It started when I was driving and " steering column locked " flashed up. I turned the car off and started it back up and the message hasn't reappeared. A few days after this the radio died while driving , it just switched off along with the sat nav screen. Then a few days ago I was driving when I heard a sound like all of the doors locking and a red light flashed up on the dash and disappeared and then finally today sat at the traffic lights and the whole car just died , it started straight back up and drove fine.

I'm wondering if it could be down the weather we've been having. I have been known to plow through a few deep puddles lately !

anyone got any ideas ?

Most common electric problems are down to battery failing or poor earth due to corrosion, I would start there.

Thanks , I read the posts about fitting a extra earth cable. It would seem that I would benefit from doing this as today I had the hdc fault and it cut out twice again while driving. It's also been struggling to start in the cold.

I'll get a lead ordered but do you think that could be why the car is cutting out while driving or maybe that's a whole other problem ?

Thanks Thumbs Up

Have you checked the connections in the passenger footwell?

Not yet. I'll have a look tomorrow in the light. Am I to just check all connections are tight or is there something specific I should be looking for ?

there are some threads on here about it, but by disconnecting and reconnecting you should be able to ensure good contacts are made. Worth having a look at the connectors in the plugs as I seem to remember one post where they had an issue with the connector. These plugs have been known to cut the car dead, so it is possible that this is an issue with your car but I would imagine the battery and/earth strap to be at fault.
