You may be disappointed. There's talk over on defender2 suggesting it will be just another up-market luxury 4x4, and may even be positioned above the Discovery! I hope that's wrong, but the signs aren't encouraging. One thing is sure though - it's not going to be a utility vehicle in the way the current Defender is.

What's wrong with JLR?

Why can't / won't they see that the market is crying out for a rugged no nonsense utility Landrover? Rolling Eyes

With all the faults the Defender had it still commanded a massive following in both town & country and even now
nothing comes close to its towing or 4x4 ability.

Such a shame to see the market fall to ugly Japanese pick ups Big Cry It better to laugh than cry

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Loire Blue

Well last week my Agronomist son traded his Freelander in for Mitsubishi L20 warrior pickup. His initial feedback is that it cruises well on motorways, is quiet inside, very good off road given that it has hi/low box plus diff lock and more ground clearance than the Freelander plus a lot more torque (2.4l diesel) and so far has delivered over 40mpg over 500 miles driving on and between farms in Kent and Sussex. On country roads it's not as comfortable as the FL2 but inside it's got all the toys, touch screen sat nav, leather and electric seats, privacy glass etc and only cost about £25k new.
I know it's a different market to the Freelander but this is squarely in the market sector that LR used to be with the Defender although they were never that plush or comfortable inside. Somehow I can't see JLR ever getting back into this (utility) sector but perhaps they have already made that decision. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Thud

I fear the rumours will be true, as LR has already said they need to make it attractive to buyers in order to shift the 70,000 units to make the replacement worth while. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Minor update.
Have removed 20 wheels.
Fitted 18 in black with grabber at. Must say they grip better than when I had
Them on my fl2 ( different profile, I have 235 60 18, previously could only get 255 5518)
Tow bar
Roof rails and bars fitted

Blackvue in place
Just ordered front seat covers for bargain price ( for a lr anyway) of 130.
Very happy with the car.

Good your enjoying it Thumbs Up

I just felt underwhelmed with it, there was things I liked and things I didn't. If I hadn't got the deal I got for trading in I wouldn't have been too disheartened to keep it. It's still for sale 6 months on now £36k they paid me £37k. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

J77, if you don't mind me asking, what don't you like about the Disco5?

The main gripe with the Disco 5 is price, it's getting too up market for my liking. I'm sure it will be good to drive and be just as capable as the current model but won't really know until the covers come off and we get to see it in all its glory.

I'm perhaps trying to talk myself out of one Laughing 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Love it, nice seating position and does everything I want it to, it's being used as a van at the moment moving furniture. The SDV6 engine is superb, it's just an effortless car to drive.

I've always loved the Disco, I had a D3 but went to the Fl2 because I spend most of the time in the car myself but there's always been that niggle, so 3 Fl2s and an Evoque later, I sat in a D4 in the showroom and that was it, the spark was back, so I bought a used D4 and it was a dog, the previous owner hadn't looked after it at all and come MOT it was needing a bit of work. Disco Sport announced so thought maybe get best of both worlds. Wrong, I knew the day I picked it up, I tried to brush it off bumming the car up but deep down I wasn't enjoying it. So 16MY Disco SE was ordered 4 months into DS ownership, it's entry level with only options being xenons, privacy glass metallic paint and 5 years servicing, but has everything I need, plus with lower road tax it makes it more appealing than previous D4s.

It's a handsome beast

Good to hear J77. I love the Disco but it's a bit big for what we need as was my RRS. It's always great to hear a positive opinion on what could be a car for the future!
And yes, she really is a lovely looking car Thumbs Up

Taken from a post on the Evoque site: "Great service from Listers in Solihull and having had a Disco Sport loaner over the weekend it has confirmed to us that we made the right decision going for the Evoque. Our SE Tech feels much more special than the HSE Luxury Disco sport".

Having read and agreed with that, I still fear that we will end up with a DS in a few years time Sad Reason being, it's the wife's car and while she loves the way the Evoque drives, she thinks it 'too flashy'! Although she agrees that the DS does not drive as good as the Evoque (We had a DS HSE on loan for 5 days once) she likes it because it is "understated" and blends in unnoticed with other cars on the road (unless you get an orange one Laughing ). It'd have to be a 2.2 Lux model or above though as I found the 2.0 HSE model a bit bland and underpowered. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

are you saying this does not blend in ?

Normally my car is brown, and caked in mud, so blending in is the least of its worries Very Happy

Its much more subtle than this - Just.....
