Faulty fuel guage??

I have had an TD4 SE model LR2 for just over a month. We have refilled it about 3 times and it has never been below a quarter tank. Last weekend we filled it up and took a drive. I am sure that the guage was reading almost full when we stopped as we had only travelled about 80 kilometers. The car has only travelled about 1200 Kilometers in total. When we restarted the car the fuel guage wont go past half a tank. We have restarted it a number of times but same fuel level. I have taken it into the garage but having browsed round the forum I suspect that it is a fuel sensor problem. Anyone with a similar problem?

Update 8 Oct.

I have just collected my car from the dealer. I was shown Land Rover's fix for my problem. Apparently the connector for the fuel sensor on top of the fuel tank can pop out of it socket. Therefore to ensure that it doesn't and to ensure a good contact LR suggests holding it in place with a cable tie. The garage manager showed me the pictures sent from LR to prove it. At least guage now marking correctly without having to take the car apart
