I'm thinking of getting a dash cam, how do you tend to hard wore them in? Any pics would be great. 2010 HSE SD4 in Santorini black

Got the drivepro 220 fitted in the wifes Fl2 and the drivepro 200 in mine and very impressed with both . I've ditched the suction mount on mine in favour of the stick on mount which can be mounted higher up the screen and is easier to remove the camera when required .

Drive pro 220 fitted in my 2013 HSE lux. The wire was easy to hide away only showing where t drops down to the camera, a couple of inches in the top left hand corner of the windscreen and a small amount as it comes over from the passenger seat side into the centre arm rest.
I have no regrets so very pleased so far.

Have just fitted a Mobius Dashcam in my 07 SE and very pleased with it.
Hard wired it to the F5 fuse in the glove box fusebox with a Nextbase kit and replaced the internal cam battery with a capacitor.
Records sound and loop records for 4 minutes.
Screen mounted behind the rearview mirror and is almost invisible both inside and out.
Really impressed with the footage
Total cost inc 32GB Micro SD card - £105.35 plus 20 minutes fitting!

A little off topic for what the OP wanted, but I just fitted a BLACKVUE DR650GW-2CH to the FL2. I went a little further and fitted the Pro Magic box to ensure I didn't drain the battery when the cam was in Park Mode, but there is some issues with finding a constant power supply through the cabin fuse box.

I'll work it out some day.

We've run cables through bulkhead adjacent to the bonnet release wire, live feed from battery to separate fuse box in engine bay, this runs front/rear strobes, 360deg roof strobes, comms and camera, apart from separate ignition feed for camera (Thinkware) none of this installation mixes with cars system.
I must say finding the way through the bulkhead was all down to my leccy chap who's far more flexible than me.

I bought a nextbase dashcam which I'm very pleased with. Hardwiring should be the same for any make though. I bought a kit for mine which came with a piggyback fuse holder which made things simple. Don't be tempted to just cut the plug off the cigerette lighter lead and hard wire it as there are filters and circuit boards in there which modulate the electrics to the camera, you will see from any hardwire kit that these are built in further along the cable.



The cable will easily push behind the front of the headlining next to the windscreen from near your mirror to the A pillar.



Next you will need to push the cable behind the top of the A pillar trim, mine was a little tight but I managed without having to pull the trim off.





The wire can then be run down the A pillar by pulling off the rubber door seal and refitting with the wire behind in the void.
The photo isn't very clear so I've marked where the wire is.



By pulling off the small piece of trim next to the dashboard ( I might have removed the bottom bit of trim as well but can't remember) the wire can be fed behind the rest of the trim to the fusebox in the footwell.
I used a bolt on the A pillar behind this trim to earth my cable however there are numerous nuts and bolts around the fusebox area to use.



I used to 5th fuse along from the left on the top row to power my camera, remove the fuse, put it in the piggyback holder and put the piggyback holder in the existing fuse socket. Done.

Glad I found this as I am just about to fit dash cam to my FL2, the photo's above will be a great help, using the fuse you have, does the cam switch on and off with the fob key, hopefully so what else does the fuse point you have used serve please cheers Arctic

That fuse is switched on and off by the ignition. According to my handbook it doesn't control anything else although there was already a fuse in so I'm not sure. 2007 TD4 XS Manual in Sumatra Black

Does anyone know of a suitable ignition live fuse to tap on a 2014 Freelander?

that fuse powers the Occupant Classification Sensor Control Module on the later freelanders its a tan 5amp fuse in position 60.

It was a red 10 amps in top 5 th position.

Why not tap into the rear view mirror supply? No wires to run down to the fusebox and much more discrete.  Cheers,

When choosing a camera, it is worth noting that some are now integrating a rear facing camera in the system.

I bought my rear camera for the Nextbase 512GW (front) camera for £45.

It is quite small and neat and comes with an adhesive mount and about 6 metres of cable. Power is taken via signal cable from front camera.

You need to connect camera via Nextbase app (on computer) to internet to get latest software update to enable camera to work.
Then I ran the cable from front to back by prising down passengers side headlining slightly and tucking cable in out of sight.
Enough cable was left to allow rear hatch to open and surplus was tucked above headlining between hatch hinges.
Rear camera was placed in top middle of rear window, within the wiped area, looking between heating elements.
The camera was recognised as soon as pluging and power applied.

On-board display (front & rear) is picture in picture, and recordings are made to SD card in two separate HD simultaneous files. Both display on computer, independantly, full screen, with normal time, speed, GPS, acceleration, etc, etc.

Very pleased with the result.

Nextbase support were very prompt and helpful, when I had a bit of finger trouble during installation.

I Thank you for the reply even though I am 18 months behind & I have still not fitted the dash cam I fitted one to my MGZT using the same method, but no the FL2 promise to myself get this done by the end of the month.
