Freelander 2 facelift reverse camera

Hi all,
I know we have threads on here already about fitting a reverse camera to a freelander but struggling to make sense of them all, can anyone advice what I need to buy and how best to fit it, I see some expensive kits around £300 then another UK website with a camera and a cable for around £80 and then all the cheap stuff on ebay on top off this all....I believe it will only work on the sat nave screen??? ours is a 2011 facelift XS. Any advice greatly recieved.
Regards Regards
J Jenkinson

Hi
For anyone thinking about doing this, be aware it isnt cheap as I now found out all you need
1. Reverse camera £50
2. Interface box £240
3. GVIF lead £30

It seems it is a bit more involved than 1rst thought to fit one, certainly if you want to do it so its on the factory fit sat nav screen. All the parts seem to be from 1 main company HIDS4U
If anyone has found another way of doing it please advise? Regards
J Jenkinson

I have been looking for a front and rear view camera with recording and visual function, was thinking of the ambarella a7la70 k1s until saw comparison with the thinkware f750 which was visibly superior but doesn't have the monitor feature of the ambarella, but video can be Bluetoothed to either phone or tablet etc,so was thinking of getting tablet that would fit in sat nav cubicle, has anyone else done this? And if so which tablet did you use? Thanks Mark.

Hi
I followed the descriptions on the following and bought a cheap replacement number plate light with built in camera from the bay, cost about £ 15.00. It works great and automatically switches when I select reverse, sensors still work also. Not sure which version of the sat nav you would have but I am fairly sure they did different versions of the interface for the different sat navs. I did need to buy an extra 5mt video lead as well

Hi Correze, the reverse camera kit you bought sounds great, how did you find fitting it? My biggest concerns would be running the cable through the car to the monitor so it's not visible, oh and also accessing the satnav/monitor to connect it? Thanks

Hi Andyv
The hardest part was running the cables up through the tailgate and through the rubber tube at the top that links the tailgate wiring into the roof. Because the RCA cable plug needs to go through there it is tight but with a pull wire it is do-able. Running through the car was quite easy, I ran down the passenger side and all of the trims that meet the carpet come off easily. The link to the other post shows how to get the sat nav out, just need slightly more of a pull than you would expect, mine is an auto and I could not work out how to remove the gear knob so that I could remove the centre console trim but turning the trim through 90 degrees gave me enough room to pull the sat nav forward. If you decide to give it a go and get stuck, let me know and I'll help where I can. Thumbs Up

Hi Correze,

Thanks for that, I will get one ordered and when I have a few spare hours I'll give it a whirl. Was there a specific video lead that you had purchased too?

Thanks Andy

Hi,

I also have ordered such camera. Can anyone recommend any 7" TFT which fits into Freelander 2? I have a small 4" monitor, but it does not look good at the dash.

Thanks

I have the same camera and hope to fit it when the weather improves. I'm initially going to fit a Wi-Fi kit to save on the wiring but have heard they are not to reliable. What I 'd like to know is when fitting the Camera leads do you remove the rear number plate housing or just wire it with it in place ?

57 plate freelander 2 reverse camera fit to factory satn

Hi all

I am after some advice on fitting a reverse camera to my frrelander 2 hse factory fitted sat nav, I have bought a wireless camera and the receiver unit has a yellow audio cable to plug into the vehicle. The problem is that the back of the sat nav has 6 connections to it.
1 blue looks like the gvif cable I have heard about
1 grey 16 pin connector with 2 wires connected
1 black connector with 2 wires connected
Then also 3 additional look like jack plugs colours green / brown / beige (similar to female audio leads but not suitable for the yellow audio cable I have to connect. Is there an adaptor or interface I need to buy for this unit.

Could anyone please advise as I would appreciate the help.

Thanks
Keith
