3rd Year Serviceplus MOT unbelievable cost

Just had a quote from my local LR service department, £534.50 for 3rd year service and £54.85 for MOT. I thought the 3rd year service was an A service but told there will be extra tests required for a 3rd year service.

Is this a rip off or what?

Is it really important to have a LR service stamp in the book or not?

Sounds a bit steep, the most I have paid is about £350 for an A service and £450 for a B service. The 90k 6 year is a big one since they are supposed to change the brake hoses.

have a look at this http://carfocus.tumblr.com/post/866856522/...cing-costs

there is supposed to be a special deal for servicing 3year old vehicles but I called a couple of dealers and they claimed not to know about it. http://www.landrover.co.uk/ownership/servi...-plus.html

Incidentally my son is just buying a Mitsubishi L200 from a main dealer and the service plan is £700 in total for three services! 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

I think all new LandRovers have the option of taking out a 5 year servicing plan for £499 nowdays. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Really? That's less than £100 /service. You couldn't buy the oils and filters for that. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

One imagines that the true cost is already built into the price of the new car... The £499 deal looks good and it ties the buyer into the dealership network.

Nothing is for nothing.

Get some quotes from independent LR specialists and other main dealers.
Compare and use for haggling.

The catch is that they have moved to two-yearly service intervals on all the ingenium engined versions. That's just two services! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

when I put my last FL2 into Stratstone at Nottingham it was 6 years old with 64k on the clock but needed the 90k/6yr service. I read up on what was done and saw the brake hoses were included. Service cost was £399

on collection when I asked if the hoses had been done the service rep said it wasn't part of the service and would cost £700 extra to replace them, however mine didn't need doing. He wouldn't agree to change them even when I showed him the print out I had saying they should be.

Interesting, I got a quote for a 90k/6yrs from Salisbury LR and they quoted about £740 which they said was high because it would include the hoses. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Third year service technically includes changing the brake fluid, at extra cost. However I don't think anyone has come across a garage that has done that. If asked, it's usually "checked the fluid and it's not needed". There should be no other work required apart from the MOT test.
Certainly worth looking around at other dealers. I have usually taken mine to TVLR in Gateshead - it's still been cheaper to do that even including 500 miles worth of diesel and I build in a few days' holiday. However I suspect they may have been putting their prices up recently.
At three years old you still have warranty insurance for any MOT items. Perhaps they are inflating the price in case they need to do any repairs? Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

My third service has just got done with Team Valley LR and it was about £170. Oil + oil filter wasn't included as oil had been changed very recently, they charged about £140. They have also changed new driver's seat belt and plastic top, tyres re-alignment as car pulled to the right (they swapped tyres side to side before), fixed driver's door squeak. All done under LR warranty. The drone/whinning noise will be fixed in April when car needs first MOT.
As I understand, there are 2 services: A and B. A is minor service and B is major and they are alternate. The major B service is on second and the A service is on the third so the B service will be next on the fourth.

^^^^^^^^^^^

correct regarding the A and B services being alternate, A is basically just an oil service and B service is majority of the filters and fluids on top of the oil change

on top of that, there are age and mileage related 'extras' such as brake hoses, brake fluids, diff oils, timing belts etc.

to be honest, if the LR dealers quote you X amount for a service then that should be a total price for the A or B service inclusive of any of the required mileage or age related extras. Not quote you for a service and then tell you its Y amount extra for the hoses/filters or whatever.

whatever they quote though needs to be 100% clear on what you are getting for that service.

Well lancasters at Welwyn have just quoted me £289 incl VAT for a 3rd service (48k miles)........I was expecting it to be higher so it is booked in now. Apparently I am going to get a video report so that will be exciting!!

This was back in September. I am not sure if it was a special offer or not

I have just looked at the bills, the oil changed was £124.93 in September and the 3rd service was £170.50 in january so the total for the 3rd service should have been £295.43 this included air and pollen filters which actually not required for A service and had been replaced in the B major service. To be honest I am happy with their service.
