Completed the instal of a Pioneer SPH DA120 with Apple Car Play retaining the steering wheel controls.

If you're an iPhone user its worthwhile, Maps and Spotify are all I need - cue the hordes of Android fanatics and apple maps haters alike.

My radio is rubbish, never holds a signal for any length of time and thinking of an upgrade this year.

Do your parking sensors still work?
I was looking into fitting a touch screen with dab but the audio guy said it would be expensive as I have fibre optic audio connection how did you fit yours.

I was going to ask about the sensors as well.

I have the rear entertainment system, however the DVD player has given up working. I believe you can connect the red, white and yellow cables to he back of the Pioneer head unit and use that as a DVD player which would solve my problem.

I have been looking into the issue about non functioning parking sensors after fitting a aftermarket radio as the OEM radio does this function.
I have found a suitable yet pricy harness that maintains the parking sensors see below.

Anyone know if the boot mounted subwoofer will still work if you change the radio.

Turbo, what audio system have you got?

When I bought the car it had an aftermarket headhunt in place. My car has the alpine system with the amp mounted in the right wing of the boot.

The stock head unit takes its input from the amp, not individual speaker cables as an ISO harness would require. On my car the amp wiring has been split so there are individual speaker cables at the head unit end.

I did not carry out this work, therefore don't have sight of how it has been done. Only way would be to tear up the carpet and having a good look, but the car is soon to sold. From what I have seen, optical cables now go from the amp and are converted into individual speaker cables.

As for the parking sensors, you will have to buy a CAN BUS type adapter to make them work again. They too are routed through the head unit in the stock set up.

Unless you are a dab hand with electronics and rather enjoy spending your weekends deciphering wiring diagrams your audio guy could be right - it could be expensive.

The subwoofer works also.

I have the factory fitted premium alpine unit fitted with the boot mounted subwoofer. I have been looking into the speaker connection if i fitted a radio with the harness adaptor there would be no sound output to the speakers. I have found a speaker bypass adaptor harness that is fibre optic that connects to the oem amp etc that costs around £112.00 plus vat. At the moment i use a dab motion that transmits via fm which is a pain in the arse as it gets interference from other fm transmitters etc.

Sounds like what I have fitted to mine, that will give you the speaker outputs you require for an aftermarket unit.

Sadly comes at a cost.

I know this post is a couple of years old now but I have been trawling the internet in need of help and this post popped up as a potential answer.
I have recently purchased my first ever LR Very happy! However I am keen to change the stereo system to the exact one in this thread, the Pioneer apple Play one. Halfords have told me it cant be done as LR don't make the cable needed to connect it up due to me having the LR Sat Nav in the car, they have said if i didn't have Sat Nav it wouldn't be an issue......That may well be the case but I find it hard to believe.

I have a Freelander 2 HST TD4 on a 58 plate. I'm not in the least bit technical but wondered if anyone had any advice for me? I would REALLY appreciate it!

Can anyone tell me the color of the speaker wires are on the big grey plug that goes into the radio.

I'm about to do this to mine at 2010 GS it had the alpine system installed so i'm purchasing a £250 connect2 lead that is meant to take care of the fibre gubbins so that it all works

Did you take any photos as you went along if so could you throw them on here, all tips / advice is appreciated.

This is the lead i'm getting that will hopefully make it reasonably smooth.
