Hi folks anyone tell me is it possible to change alternator clutch without removing from engine, and if so any tips, or special tools required. Cheers |

I didn't know there was a clutch in the alternator drive. What is its purpose?

From Topix:
So the opposite of the bike really - used when the revs drop more quickly than generator inertia allows. |

Interesting. I suspect it's a way of buffering the drive from rapid angular velocity changes at the crank at low revs. A bit like the decoupling effect of the dmf! Does the i6 have one? |

No. From my knowledge, on i6 is a mechanical connection to the crankshaft through some helical gears and then a direct coupling.

So perhaps not needed in an inherently smoother engine? |
