07 Freelander 2 trip computer

Hi everyone. Just purchased an 07 FL2 SE. All seems to be working alright with ONE exception.
The trip computer is only showing the outside temp. Pushing the button on the end of the indicator stalk does nothing so I cant change any of the readings IE change it average mpg or miles to empty.
Has anyone got any ideas what the solution may be. I have no idea at all so any help would be much appreciated

My first action would be to disconnect the battery for 20 mins or so. That will reset everything.

Thanks Paul. I'll try it later today, IF it stops bloody raining!!
By re setting everything, does that mean that i'll lose radio stations, phone etc??

Hi Dick, The radio is not affected by disconnecting the battery, Perhaps windows and sunroof will need to be reset.
I have noticed this happens if you incorrectly select low line (instrument cluster) during a coding/activation operation. (High line will show message centre)
Maybe something else to check out?

OK. Tried disconnecting the battery for half an hour. No difference, still nothing on the display except the outside temp despite pushing the button on the end of the indicator stalk.
If anyone has any other ideas it would be very much appreciated

another thing that people have tried on here on top of disconnecting the battery is to disconnect both + and - terminals and touch the connections together to fully discharge any residual in the system. Read up on here before trying though to make sure you get the procedure right.

failing that it could be a new stalk is needed or worst case a problem with one of the many ECU in the FL2.

Alex from Romania on this site is very knowledgeable about all things FL2

My trip computer crashed once ie went blank I pressed and held the button on the indicator stalk with the engine running and it reset the computer. Then quickly press the button to cycle through the modes. Thumbs Up

More than sure the switch for that button is not working.
If you have in your reach a LR compatible diagnostic tool you could verify the proper functioning of the switch.

Tried holding the knob on the end of the stalk for a while. Didn't make any difference so i'm gonna see if if i can get a friend with access to land rover diagnostics can take a look

Hi Dick,

Have you managed to sort this out as yet, as mine does the same thing and I am of the belief that the stalk is faulty. Please advise if fixed. Don't wanna buy one for nothing.

Cheers fro SA

Another indicator switch fitted, albeit one off fleabay from a wrecked car, then cleared the fault. All working properly now.
£25 for the new stalk and £50 fitting and clearing the faults. Bargain as a new stalk costs around £175
