Throttle body (how can i tell if its working?)

Been reading another thread about hesitation and it was mentioned about the throttle body being faulty how can I tell if mine is working.

My Freelander which is manual seams flat when pulling away to which sometimes seams to want to stall. I have also noticed a sort of flat spot with the throttle response when accelerating onto the duel carriageway there seams like a dead spot on the pedal if you know what I mean.
I have never heard any sort of crunching or grinding in the 4 years I owned the freelander but the farmer I bought it from was known to do the odd bodge on things whether he has removed the gears or not I don't know.

mine doesn't make a whine only a sort or squeal is heard if I press the clutch pedal or after I switch the engine off which last for a few minutes which I thought was being made by the cooling fan module on the radiator but I might be mistaken.

The squeal could be an indicator as mine did that a few times on turning the engine off - sounded like shot water pump bearings, that stopped, then on another occasion there was a grinding crunching noise that happened once (when I suspect the gears actually were getting stripped) but what was really noticeable after that was the extra judder it gave when I switched the engine off instead of the usually completely smooth shutdown. I drove mine for several weeks before it got fixed at a service and I have to say I noticed no performance changes or oddities at all.

My engine shudders to a stop most of the time and on the odd occasion it shuts down smooth. I might have to remove the throttle body and take a look as it must be broken.

I was surprised when I changed mine as I didn't think the shutdown was bad, but with a new throttle body it is night and day. Worth doing as it is easy and relatively cheap.
