Firstly, Happy New Year everyone!
I've been subtle but have not really made it unclear that I have worked at a National Management level of one, if not (depends on your point of view) the premium tyre manufacturer in Europe/worldwide. Both marketing and technical roles including Asia Pacific.
On the odd occassion I have offered some pretty good advice when it comes to tyres and frankly some people have argued differently which really that's ok as I'm just offering you good advice.
Particularly where things such as load/speed ratings and OE recommendations by LR.
For a lot of you who live in climates which requires you to run winter tyres and also countries like Australia where off-road conditions means a tyre of reduced speed and load ratings are used.
My point!
Recently I was able to view my CCF and in there was a setting for "Winter Tyres" which limits the speed the vehicle can reach and from memory, please don't quote me as there was a lot to take in, 110km/h or equivalent mph.
So if you decide to fit winter/off-road tyres of lesser load/speed ratings, which is not recommended, just remember that next time your hurtling down a highway with these tyres fitted and possibly have your car loaded that the manufacturer/LR has put this setting within CCF for a very good reason, as should your tyre supplier apply stickers to your dashboard warning of lower specific tyres are fitted, which never happens.
So my advice, always fit equal or greater load/speed rated tyres regardless. If not then
LR has provided a safety feature which you really should get your dealer to activate whilst driving during winter or lesser specification tyres are being used.
That's all I wanted to say and bring to your attention, the choice is yours in the end. MY15

When I lived in Switzerland we had to run winter tyres by law (same laws applied in Germany and Austria)

The Nokian winter tyres on my Jags were W rated to 270kmh / 165mph but it was a general rule not to exceed 160kmh on winter tyres in dry conditions for extended periods and the tyre shops had stickers that they would put on the instrument cluster as a reminder.

The actual speed rating of the winter tyres is for "cool, damp" conditions where the water on the road would have a cooling effect at higher speeds.

I heard of many people destroying their winter tyres by driving too fast (I mean like 155mph) on the Autobahn in the dry, even though their tyres were rated to much higher speeds and the ambient temperatures were quite low (and I mean, winter tyres, in winter, but with dry roads).

Given that the UK national speed limit is 70mph, I don't think you blokes will have much too worry about though  2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

You'll need a Diagnostic Tool to access the cars CCF and edit if you choose to.

I think the winter tyre option shows up on my dash display, I'll check later, my previous FL2 had it.
It's fairly useless, it doesn't limit your speed, it gives an inaudible (at speed) bong, a warning on the display and allows you to carry on accelerating, if the bong was persistent it may be a better warning?

No, i have that also, this is another field within CCF which the dealer should activate if Winter tyres are fitted and will prevent car exceeding this speed limit.
As with DS which you can set a "speed limiter" this is also in the Freelander 2 CCF which could be activated. Again its early days for me atm so ill look into a bit later. MY15

Ah, I see, that would be an excellent feature to allow users to adjust, my Merc had a system, speedtronic I think, where I could set a max speed, it was a god send, if you needed to exceed the set limit, kick down would override it.

Im not sure how the LR system works.
There was actually a couple of fields for speed limiters within the latest Freelander 2 CCF.
Top speed limiter (was set at 250km/h), speed limiter and Winter Tyre setting.
I may try changing the "Speed Limiter" field in my CCF from "Without" to "active" and see if it comes up like the DS on the dash driver command configuration screen as a configurable option. MY15
