Mira Sport shower popped ?

yesterday there was a bang and water was shooting out of our shower unit (lucky we were in)

I removed the unit and stopped the water, which was shooting out of where the cold water feed enters the unit.

the plastic bracket that supports the cold water entry pipe was cracked.

I will need to buy a new shower unit.

would appreciate any comments/advice

Iain

ps it is 16 years old, and may be due to age?

it just needed a new connector (to contact the mains water) for the bottom of shower unit. Moved house- new house and similar thing happened- but this time it was connector to a power shower units- the plumber had used a plastic coupler- after the damage Insurers plumber said it was 'legal' but not a good idea and replaced with copper fittings 2011 XS,Sumatra Black, GONE MARCH 2014- RR Evoque Prestige 5 door ,MY 2014,Loire Blue, Silver Roof, Panoramic roof.

thanks for the info, but it sounds like your problem was not related to the actual shower unit itself like mine is,

but to pipe connectors feeding it?

Could be that your water pressure is to high. We had a water softener fail for this very reason. Pressure regulator fixed to mains bringing pressure down from 7 -8 bar to an acceptable 3 - 4 bar. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

It may be due to a shock pulse in the system, you like us probably have a high water pressure, if you loo supply valve is set to a high fill rate you can get a shock as the ball valve closes, we hear it in the combi boiler, if this also depends on the distance the cistern is from the shower and how the two are run from the cold supply. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

simple solution belfast sink washing line prop and garden hose to the cold tap ,
outside by the shed (also has the great effect of saveing water as a quick hose down and a dash for the house saves standing their wasteing all the hot water )

thanks for the replies

I've decided to go for a Mira Sport multifit 9.8KW as a replacement

it gets good reviews and I feel the 9.8KW would be adequate?

How big is the breaker and cable supplying the shower Iain?
9.8kw is a good size but creeps over the capacity of a 40A breaker, check you can safely run this on the cable you have Thumbs Up

existing shower is a Mira Sport 10.8KW so should be ok.

would have went for exactly the same for replacement, but the plumber who installed it has not followed the instructions re the cold water input position.

so I will need to alter it a wee bit, hence the multifit model.

Ps 63A breaker

I had same problem. Replacement plastic brackets are available on eBay and Amazon amongst others for about a tenner. Just search "Mira sport bracket". Just watch there are two types; one for showers up to 1998 and the other for those after. It's easy to tell which one you need from the pictures. If you're otherwise happy with the shower it saves all the messing about swapping over
